Oh Hannah
By Sarah McCuan

In Memory of Isaac Davis, blacksmith of Acton,
who died on the Old North Bridge, April 19, 1775
I am dead
I fell at the head of the bridge
You felt the ball pierce my skin
Before it pierced my heart
My blood has stained the ground
It colors the coats of those who pressed beside me
Who after the pursuit of my murderers
Gently marched my torn corpse homeward
Solemnly they lay it in your Acton parlor
Our sons and daughters
Toss in their beds today
Tomorrow they will rise
They will fight for that for which I have fought --- and died.
Oh Hannah ---
Take care of the children.
