Title: Video and pictures needed!
Post by: desertrat144 on November 16, 2009, 07:18:42 PM
Hello, and thanks for stopping by this Board. O0

Currently, I'm looking for posted, public domain pictures and videos from the '09 Appleseed shoots; I'm looking specifically for 'disaled' folks on the line.  If you know of, or stumble across anything, please PM me with the URL.  If there is any commentary or discussion of the shoot, that's useful too!

Thanks in advance for your help with this.

Not sure what your end game is, but be aware that if you are publishing these photos, you'll need to have a model release for each recognizable person.  Shot from the back/side, with no faces, you are probably fine.

I wouldn't automatically assume, because someone says 'Sure, use my photos', that you have explicit permission to use those persons photographed in any type of promotion.

We hashed this out a while back with lots of details and forms, but I couldn't immediately find it.  The best way, IMHO, is to have a standard release form at each shoot and have them sign it during signup (or not).  If they don't sign it, you can't use their image.  It might be helpful to mark their shooting position somehow visually indicating that they are not to be photographed.

That said, there's several of my posts that have photo galleries with them.

Just an FYI.

Ishy:

Breda, of The Breda Fallacy Blog, is a librarian, a blogger, an shooter, and an amputee, but not yet a Rifleman. She did an Appleseed last year and wrote of her experience in her blog. She would be an excellent source for you. Just Google "Breda Fallacy" and you will find her,

H-E-L-L-O MISTER ANDERSON... (sorry, couldn't resist!)

The 'End Game' is to show shooters that they can get back on the line, work out ways to hunt, and GASP!! even teach their kids & kin the basics of shooting a la [17] '60's to [19] '80's family traditions and heritage; things got a little weird in the '90's.  We got what we deserved, and still didn't learn- Santana (George, not Carlos) was right!, but this goes to another (dis)cussin'. The Press is too enamored of [us] 'gimps' playing rugby & basketball, its time for a reality check, and to acknowledge 'traditional' outdoor pursuits are still viable!

The back half of the 'end game', shooting as therapy- it helped Gunny Hathcock (R.I.P. Gunny)- survive and deal with extensive third degree burns, reconstructive surgery, then MS and other physical problems from his S.E. Asia tour.  Currently the VA offers Winter Clinics where this is a venue, why not 'open it up' ? If good ol' Unc won't, maybe the existence of Adaptive Appleseed can.  The Appleseed program already has folks using the training to help get deploying troops up to speed, beyond what they've already been taught.

Thank you for the reminder!  At the Reno shoot we signed 'blanket releases' for image use, and I made the leap that this was SOP at all AS shoots.  Now I will check with folks prior to use (also check to see if the release is in the down loadable forms).

Thanks!

I will have to dig, but I have some pics with releases here somewhere. Some are not noticable, several vets shot to rag dolls but still breathing and shooting, including a top notch instructor recovering from continued fully disabling surgeries, but I believe I have their letters of thanks here too. If I can find them I will send them your way as soon as I do. Thanks for running this with out having to be prodded into it.

Could you forward copies to me, too? THX, dr144

Ishy and willorith,

Breda came to my shoot last year at Gibsonburg, Ohio. I assigned posterboy to work with her, and I have tons of pictures from that shoot. I'll try to dig through them to see if she is n any of them. I'll let you know what I turn up...

Thanks to Another D.O.M. (reply #2) & Josey Wales (reply #1) at Lake George NY May 15 & 16 AAR (http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=13843.msg115093#msg115093) for the pictures of the event, involving quick thinking to a working solution to assist an attendee with adaptive needs.

A special thanks to Another D.O.M., Josey Wales, Buzzworth,  nyrasgt A.K.A. M.A.D. (Mark), and 3rd Strike- I hope I mentioned everyone for the pics, and a simple but elegant solution to an issue!

There are other ways to participate. My wife became a shoot admin and is really pleased with her pink RWVA ball cap. I'm working up a safe way for her to fire the LTR from her powered wheel chair. She has two and she loaned her spare to a disabled shooter at Colombia, Maine on April 18 this year. I don't have pics, but I'll check around here in Maine and see if there are any.

Thanks! dr144

Can't really tell it from here, but Ted is confined to a wheelchair. He shot the whole Leyden shoot in the seated position. Didn't quite get his Rifleman patch but I expect to be handing him one at the next shoot he makes.

Little more info about Ted in the AAR here: http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=13950.0

Thanks for the pic & link to the thread.  dr144

Adding the photography release to the liability waiver would seem to be the easiest thing. That way more paper isn't added to the registration process.

We are looking for one that would work in all the states.  The laws vary in expectations of privacy by venue type.  Sing out if you come across anything good.  dr144

Wow! I find this one interesting. What is the first step to join this club? I like this shooting game because I want to improve my aiming. I'm playing airsoft with my friends but I think I should have some good tutorials first on proper aiming and sighting.  :~

Jeremiah,

Glad you are interested, but it's not really a club.  The place to start is go here: http://www.appleseedinfo.org/ (http://www.appleseedinfo.org/)  and find an Appleseed shoot near you.  If you are under 21 it will not cost you anything to register.  You will probably even be able to borrow a rifle from one of the instructors, if you don't have your own.  You will then only need to buy some ammo for the rifle.  So find a shoot, register, then come back and let us know which shoot you are registered for, and someone should be able to put you in touch with the shoot boss, and you can let him know if you need a rifle, etc.  Best wishes.

Considering the current Copy Right debate, along with Privacy  Issues, an OK to use, especially with an Adaptive Minor would be handy to have on record.

Hindsight is 20/20!  :wb:

They are my pics. I took them. No problem on my end.

ETA: Zack is the spokesman for MD in this state his picture is taken hundreds if not thousands of times in a year. He is only too happy for us to use his image and spread the word.
