Coshocton is always a wonderful range to have an Appleseed, even with the change in weather we had this weekend. The morning started out cold and misty/rainy, but we had a few patriots that braved the weather to participate in the class.
We started the day with hearing about history and learning about safety. We then shot the first hits count target of the weekend. Out of 3 shooters, we had all 3 hit all three shots in the 100, 3 hit all in the 200, 1 hit all in the 300, 1 hit all in the 400 and 0 hit the shingle.
We learned the six steps of firing the shot, natural point of aim, and the prone position and sling use. We worked on several drills in the process of learning this. We heard the second strike of the match before learning talking targets and inches, minutes, clicks. We performed several drills. We then moved to learning seated and standing positions and working through an AQT.  Ember reconfirmed her Rifleman with a score of 228, and continued over the rest of the weekend with another 228, a 224, and a 218. We also heard the story of the third strike of the match.
With only a few  shooters, and everyone being so attentive, we were able to discuss and answer questions at a relaxed pace while still getting plenty of drills and some AQTs.
We finished the day with a hits count target. Out of 5 shooters, we had 5 hit all three shots in the 100, 5 hit all in the 200, 4 hit all in the 300, 3 hit all in the 400 and 3 hit the shingle, with Josh, Ember and Matthias clearing it! It was Matthias' first time to clear a hits count target. Great job!

Sunday brought more cold weather, but at least the wind calmed down and it ended up being a sunny day. We started with reviewing the positions, six steps of firing the shot with natural point of aim, and safety before shooting the hits count target. Out of 4 shooters, we had 3 hit all three shots in the 100, 2 hit all in the 200, 1 hit all in the 300, 1 hit all in the 400 .
We moved on to AQTs, some drills, and a Parker's Revenge fun shoot. Josh scored a 213 and a 235 on the AQTs to reconfirm his rifleman, and DblSchott reconfirmed with a 229 and a 233!  Azariah and Matthias showed great progress over the weekend. Keep working on it. A Rifleman persists. We ended the day with the last hits count target. Out of 6 shooters, we had 6 hit all three shots in the 100, 4 hit all in the 200, 3 hit all in the 300, 4 hit all in the 400, and 3 hit the shingle, with Ember clearing it.
During the weekend, Buzzard completed all of the instructing to earn his red hat! Also, Josh took on the duties of being an Instructor In Training! Thank you for stepping up.

Thank you to all of the students that came to the clinic. It was a pleasure to have all of you on the line and I hope to see you again at another Appleseed.
Thank you to Coshocton Gun Club for allowing us the use of the range and clubhouse. It is always so nice to go to a range that does so much for the program.  Your hospitality was greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all of the instructors. This could not have happened without you.

My family has been attending Appleseed shoots since 2010, and I have enjoyed every one of them. However, this year's shoot was different. With a smaller group, I had more opportunities to ask questions—questions that helped me become a better shooter and ultimately led me to begin training to become an instructor.

I left the shoot having grown not only in my skills but also in my understanding of the Appleseed mission. I want to thank Doc and all the other volunteers who gave their time and effort to make this shoot possible. Your willingness to share your knowledge and experience made a lasting impact on me.

I look forward to becoming part of the team and passing on what I have learned, knowing that one day my own grandchildren will be standing on that firing line.

That thought makes this journey even more meaningful.
