It was a cold and snowy day, and 5 students braved the conditions, ready to learn. All students were repeat attendees of Project Appleseed.

This is a special event we hold every year during the anniversary of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. A CMP M1 Garand match is held the day before which also commemorates the "Frozen Chosin". The CMP match's director, John, who is a tremendous friend to Project Appleseed, helped out throughout the day. He plowed the range and helped manage range safety. Thank you "John The mauser man"!

The stories about the Battle of Chosin Reservoir dovetail into what we teach: how marksmanship helped Americans overcome great odds.

We received a few inches of snow in the early morning hours, on top of a previous heavy snowfall. The high temperature of the day was 28 degrees Fahrenheit, but a steady wind made it feel a little colder than that.

One student brought a crockpot of chili to share with everyone. Thanks Joe!

A 16 year old student who had previously earned her Rifleman-patch was very close to earning her Winterseed-patch. She didn't get it this time, but was close with a score of 198. Well done young lady, keep at it.
She did manage to clear her hits-count-target at the end of the day, when the temps were rapidly dropping below 18F. That is a tremendous accomplishment.

Thank you to all the instructors who made this a good event. Special thanks to Cincinnatus who travelled up from North Carolina to help!

What a great day!  We woke up with new snow, cold temperatures, and slippery roads.  That didn't stop everyone from showing up with great attitudes and getting some good range time in.

In the end, the sun dipped below the horizon, chasing us all away but we all had a great time.

Cincinnatus-

Truly a Winterseed event!
My thanks for letting me join the fun!
