I need some 22LR for the next appleseed.  Can anyone provide a lead on some 22LR bulk for $30/500 +/-.  I see enough $25/50, but I want plain bulk ammo but can't find a source.

Thank you

Buckshot

Just keep trying Wal-mart for the Federal 550 packs.

If someone posted another source it would most likely be cleaned our before you could get there.

The walmart by me told me to call at 2200 and see what they are going to put out for the next day.  If you are there by 0800 the next day you should have pick of the litter.  They might tell you when it usually comes in also.  I had to get some of the Federal Auto Match,  but I have plenty in stock.

The wally marts near me have been out of bulk for most of 3 months, but they always have CCI mini mags. At under $7/100 it's pretty good stuff

NOTE: Order ship time estimated at 120-180 days

I've had 2 cases on order for about a month now.  Only 2-5 months more wait  :(

If you try Walmart, get there early in the morning, about 7 am, when they are just putting out there daily deliveries.  You might call first to confirm the time this happens.  They commonly get something every day, they just don't get much, and it is sold out within minutes.

My WallyWorld (Walmart) has at lest 10 boxes of CCI on the shelf every time I go into the store.  While supplies are not huge, they are at least available (subject to a maximum of 6 items per customer per day).

I'm slowly rebuilding my personal stash until my CMP order arrives.

I've stumbled on the Federal bulk last week at walmart - but that's rare. I went back the next day looking for another couple of boxes and the normal counter guy didn't even know it had come in - he was pissed because he had wanted some.

I've also seen the CCI blazer 22lr more often now (not at Walmart though - just around.) - at varying prices. I picked up 4 at $18.99 a few weeks ago at one FFL, then 4 more at $16.99 last week at Herb Phillipson (sometime they put this on sale at $14.99, but this is the first I've seen of it at Herbs in 2 months.)

Yesterday I was in a gun store and they had the same CCI Blazer bulk packs for $28.99!  I have no problem with profit, but when I see that margin on lousey 22 I tend to shop more carefully and bargin harder - much harder - with this guy.

Got some!!!
One of the local Sports Authorities directed me to another location that just got 10 boxes of Winchester 333 value packs.  I bought 3 packs, left 7 for others, possibly other Appleseeders

It is difficult here also. We do not have a walmart. Big-5's shelves are cleared out now. There are 2-gun stores in town I am going to go check out. If I can't find any, I may drive the 50miles to Ventura or Lompoc to look.

I wonder how this whole ammo "shortage" is going to affect attendance at Appleseeds. A lot of people don't stock up on massive quantities od .22LR. They just buy it when they need it.

If it gets too bad I'll buy a good pellet gun and keep on shooting.

I keep a shooting store of 1500 rds of CCI Mini-Mag FMJ that goes down as low as 800 rds before i get serious about building it back. This has been the easiest way to manage all my calibers so if it takes a week or two I don't worry about it. Only way Ive found to deal with this market.

This is of course different from my long term stores of 7,000rds .22LR HP CCI Mini-Mag that I will not touch for any reason until current situation improves.

I checked the local gun stores today and they have been cleaned out.

I am not concerned about having a stock pile of .22 for myself. I do not need it. I just want to get some so my daughter, and a UCSB student I have met who wants to learn to shoot, can go to the next Appleseed.

I will look somemore.

Well, last night around midnight, a guy posted up a bunch of .22lr for sale on calguns.net. I snatched up 4-boxes of Federal for $20 each. Drove the 1 hour down to Ventura and back to pick it up. So now I am set. I guess if you keep your eyes open, some of this may come available one way or another. When I mentioned to him on the phone this was for people at the appleseeds, he threw in another 300rds of misc .22lr. I talked to him about the appleseeds and he seemed pretty interested.

These days we have to think ahead. CMP has 22LR but it takes a while. If you start today you have ammo in about 2 to 3 months. At least you'll have plenty in the fall.

Can anyone comment on the quality of the CMP ammo? Has it been reliable for you in 10/22s? Accuracy?

No need to restart a thread on how any ammo shoots. There is 5 pages of that here:

BaldDragn,

A good pellet rifle runs about $2000 but is well worth it. I have some that I've had for more than 20 years and they still shoot one hole groups. If you are trying to hold down expenses, the 22RF is the way to go.

A note of caution. Don't buy the cheapest you can find. Buy the cheapest you can find that functions well in your rifle.

I just bought 2 bricks of blazer for $22 OTD at the OKC gun show.  There is a show here in Arkansas in June.  I'll probably pick up a few more bricks if they have the same (waxed).  I have no problems buying some extra bricks if I knew they would be taken off my hands.   I'll be at Osage June 27.

Anyone from NY or PA going to the Pelham Shoot this weekend?  I have a stash of about 27K rounds now.  I can resupply easily enough, so to avoid shipping costs, let me know, and I can sell some FTF.  I have American Eagle bricks, Federal Champion bricks, and I might be able to bust loose with some Federal 525 packs of copper plated 36 grain, I forget what the load number is.  Not the 745.  I think its 750.  I just need replacement funding for the ammo.  I see some folks looking for less than $30 a brick.  I picked some up today at $17 per.
If you are coming, and want to buy some ammo, shoot me a pm.  If you want to pay the shipping on a case lot, let me know.  I don't know what the UPS cost would be, but when I shipped 1K Black Hills 75 grain 5.56 to myself from Flagstaff AZ, it was $34.  I'd think it wouldn't be more than $25, which broken down over ten bricks per case would take the unit cost to about $20 a brick.  That enough under $30 a brick?

ammoman.com is currently out of stock, but I check there often. His prices are SHIPPED anywhere in the lower 48. I've always had good luck with him.......if it's in stock

This isn't online, but for those of you in the Gibsonburg area, Wal Mart in Fremont had a good supply of Federal 550 rd bulk packs on Friday 10/16/09. I bought a couple of them, but they still had about a dozen boxes left after I bought mine.
