After Action Report: APC Orlando, FL. Sep 20-21, 2025
Ten eager students gathered at the Central Florida Rifle & Pistol Club on Saturday morning, prepared for a typical hot and muggy day. Fortunately, the weather proved agreeable, setting the stage for a productive two-day clinic.
Saturday: Instruction and Practice
The clinic began with the "First Strike of the Match," followed by a safety briefing. The first main activity was the Hits Count Target, where each participant fired 13 shots. Although nobody cleared the target, one person managed to hit the button. Instruction quickly focused on the foundational elements of pistol shooting: grip and stance, sight alignment, and trigger management. Relay positions were assigned based on odd and even-numbered targets to ensure smooth execution of the course of fire.
By 12:30 PM, participants were ready for lunch and the "Second Strike of the Match." Post-lunch, the focus shifted to Precision Shooting Techniques. By 2:45 PM, all necessary instruction had been covered, and after hearing the "Third Strike," the group tackled the first Pistol Qualification Test (PQT) of the day. Notable performances included Kurt requalifying with a score of 215. On the second PQT, scores improved: Kurt scored 228, John shot 215, and Manuel requalified with 231. With all objectives met, the group revisited the Hits Count Target; Manuel successfully cleared the Redcoat, and everyone demonstrated marked improvement, with at least four hits on a tombstone.
Sunday: Advanced Drills and Achievements
Sunday morning began with another round on the Hits Count Target, yielding excellent scores. A comprehensive "firehose" review followed, with repeat drills designed to reinforce the skills required for all five PQT stages.
By 11:00 AM, shooters were ready for the first PQT of the day. John and Kurt continued their success from Saturday, and the rest of the group showed they benefited from a restorative night's sleep. The Ball & Dummy Drill preceded another PQT, where John and Kurt achieved the Pistoleer™™ designation again. During lunch, malabar shared the story of Sam & Sam, highlighting the evolution of the pistol and the Second Amendment over the years.
After lunch, the group continued with skills practice and the Test Drive Drill, providing everyone the chance to shoot with each other's pistols. This was declared a success, as all participants appreciated the opportunity to handle a variety of firearms. The day concluded with the Red Coat target after completing four PQTs. John achieved his highest score of 223 on the third PQT, while Kurt turned in a solid 221 on the fourth.

Wow!  That improvement speaks for itself.  Awesome shooting (and instructing)!
