Calling all Instructors (of all hat colors)...

I am setting up an information tent at the Virginia International Tattoo in Norfolk, VA on April 24-27, and am looking for some help in spreading the word about Project Appleseed. I am hoping to have 2-3 instructors each day staffing the tent.

What is the Virginia International Tattoo, you ask? It is a performance of military music, featuring bagpipes, drums, military bands, drill teams, Irish dancers, and other performers from around the world. It is one of the most popular events on the east coast, and being held in the city with the world's largest naval base is one of the most patriotic events you might ever attend.  Over 9,000 people attend each performance, and there is a two-hour event, called the Tattoo Hullaballoo, before each performance. That is when we will be manning the booth.

I have asked for a 10' x 20' space, enough for a couple of popup canopies, and hope to have some tables with Appleseed information on them, as well as seating for 10-15 people.  The weather can get hot in Norfolk in April, the shade provided by the canopies by themselves may draw people in. Because we are a non-profit, there should be no cost to the program.

As well as talking with patrons about Project Appleseed, I think we can get the Three Strikes told with some creative scheduling (10-15 minute strikes starting on the hour and half hour), giving people plenty of time to get inside and get to their seats after the 3rd Strike is finished (about 45 minutes before show time).

Any suggestions about putting on an event like this would be appreciated-I hope to hand out a lot of trifolds, targets, and some Appleseed swag as well. Possibly a daily drawing for a T-shirt/book package, maybe a gift certificate for two to an event (people come from all over to attend this show).

As soon as you began to care about them, that care was exercised in sending persons to rule over them, in one department and another…Sent to spy out their liberty, to misrepresent their actions and to prey upon them; men whose behaviour on many occasions has caused the blood of these sons of liberty to recoil within them."

An update...talking with the producer of the Tattoo this morning, she reassured me that we will be able to have the space requested. A message has been sent to various state, regional, and national Appleseed leaders with the update and my plan for this event. Lots of flags, maybe a daily prize giveaway (books, T shirt, coin, etc), and spreading the message of Project Appleseed.

This years event looks to be bigger than normal, with the army, navy, and marines all celebrating 250 years in existence.

While a local event, if anybody wants to help out, feel free to message me with your availability. Showtimes are 7 pm Thursday-Saturday, and 2 pm on Sunday, with the pre-show occurring two hours prior to showtime.

Check out their website www.vafest.org and click on the Tattoo tab.
