The very first Project Appleseed Marksmanship Clinic was held at the Floyd County Wildlife Club in Rome, GA, and what a great weekend it was! Eight patriots and three instructors gathered on a cool Saturday morning to learn about marksmanship and our country's founding.

As the morning began, we started with some opening remarks, then our favorite subject, history! Gator0246 gave a spellbinding first strike. Then the rifles came out and we shot the hits count target. We learned that we had things to learn, so the marksmanship instruction got into full swing.

We covered all the basics, including sling use, the 6 steps, NPOA, the prone position, and trigger control. Once we engaged those squares, we saw some great groups. After a few more squares and blocks of instruction, it was time for lunch. The range treated us to a tasty chili and cornbread lunch with sweet tea, followed by apple cobler - Huzzah! While everyone else ate, Upacreek regaled us with the second strke.

Once back on the range, we loosened our belts for a couple of squares, then covered talking targets, followed by more squares, then IMC. After a few more blocks of instruction and some more squares, we had to get those Redcoats back to Boston, so Leadslinger66 told the third strike. Then we learned about shooting from the sitting and kneeling positions and practiced those. The day was coming to a close, so after a bit more history and some brief closing remarks, we called it a day.

Sunday dawned with five shooters returning, plus we Roswell joined us to lend a hand on instruction. He kicked off the history by telling us about Nancy Hart. Then we reviewed what we learned on Saturday and got started with morning hits count target, then practicing the seated positions again. After that, we covered and practiced transitions and began with an AQT, taught standing, and finished it up.

During lunch we talked about known distance shooting and about how Appleseed is a full distance shooting program at its heart. We worked our way through the afternoon competing more drills and AQTs.

We did sprinkle more history throughout the day, including hearing about GAtor0246's ancestor who was a Revolutionary War soldier. Great story!

No new riflemen were revealed, but everyone showed perseverance and improved greatly.

My thanks to everyone who came out to learn about our nation's founding and also to soak up some instruction on traditional rifle marksmanship. We enjoyed having you spend your weekend with us and hope to see each of you on the line again soon!
