I've said it before and I'll say it again - there's just nothing like a weekend at the world-famous Goin Firearms & Shooting range.  This past weekend was the first of two planned Fall pistol events.  This was a SOLD OUT event  ^:)^   We were honored to see many familiar faces - welcome back to many of you, and welcome to those of you that were new to our pistol events - or to Project Appleseed in general!

After the standard safety briefing, it's time for the Hits Count target.  Looking at the results, the instructors were perhaps just a little nervous.  Those were some GOOD GROUPS - we were hoping that you all were bad shots when speed came into play, otherwise we'd have to dig deep to find something to teach you!  ;D   We kid, we kid.  But yes - this was a strong group and we just got stronger.  Throughout the first day we had - of course - the Three Strikes of the Match (Hooray for Steck & the return of "Ears McGee!"), and all the typical Points of Instruction.  Everyone did very well following along on not just what we covered, but the logic & skills that each drill would reinforce.  By the end of the day we had THREE Pistoleer™S - One requalified, one that earned on this his third event, and one that allowed me to pass out my very first ever Distinguished Pistoleer™ patch

Day 2 sees us returning and after a safety briefing and a review of what was discussed yesterday, we're back at it.  Lunch was jam-packed with a great presentation by ScottInTX of Sam & Sam, followed by a group discussion of pistol selection, potential accessories, holsters and some good all-American advice  :F  Throughout the day we alternated pistol drills and PQTs.  Joe Bauers and ApprenticeCarpenter both suggested new pistol drills that were VERY well received - Thank you gentlemen, those will make it into the standard rotation  O0

By the end of the day, we had a total of SIX individuals that earned Pistoleer™ in one form or another  :cool2:  One of the participants that earned this designation for the first time did so with a rimfire - and then challenged himself to do it again, and succeeded, with his everyday carry 1911.  Well done to all of you.  In my humble opinion, a special recognition goes out to those of you that are newer to pistols and really stepped up.  I hope you had a good time (even if one of you learned that the barrel of the second-hand pistol you acquired was worn out - that's valuable information). I KNOW that you learned something because I saw your skills develop.  You should be proud of yourself, I know that I speak for all of the instructors when I say that we're proud of you.

A special "thank you" to all of the instructors that came out and made this event the absolute success that it was.  You all did the heavy lifting, and you did so with style.  I'm grateful for all of you!

We also have to give a shout out to the scheduler for deciding that September is much nicer to spend the day in the Texas sun than July  ;D .  A great pistol event, and well done to all the participants on both sides of the line.

Look, man.  If you want to talk about the 2023 range schedule . . .

One pistol event every quarter.  A reliable schedule.  A pistol event every three months.  It sounds great - on paper.

Then we get to July, and we remember that it's Texas, and Texas is hot in July, and pistols get hot in the sun  %)
