I thought I saw a post about how to cure Tippmann M4-22 mags that won't drop free a while ago. Can't find it now. Does anyone have a fix?

The first thing I'd try would be to reverse engineer the baseplate, then add to my drawing a triangular protrusion outwards (the resulting shape fully assembled would be more reminiscent of the original 20rd mags circa Vietnam) then cast that out of zamak, bronze or similar cheap dense low-temp alloy. I contemplated doing this for my M&P 15-22 mags before I abandoned that idea for multiple reasons.

I sanded the upper area of the magazines. Basically wherever they make contact with the internal surfaces of the lower receiver. It improved things but they are not always dropping free. It seems to be somewhat dependent on the heat and humidity. I'll probably sand them some more and see if that does the trick.

Would you accept a weight added to the mag on the bottom?

NJrefugee

I would, as long as it didn't add too much length to the mag.

I saw one guy that had picked up some 'wheel balance weights' from a tire shop. They have adhesive on one side you can attach to a mag.

I have a 1st gen. The wheel weights were my plan at first. The 25 rounders dropped free but the 10 rounders did not. I decided to send it back to Tippmann instead and they corrected the issue; I have no idea what they done.
