Liberty was running strong in Southern Indiana this past weekend.

We had our inaugural event at the Floyd County Conservation Club near Georgetown, Indiana. We had two brave soles willing to sign up for an early Feb event in the Ohio Valley.  Both were hoping for a Winterseed.  Alas, we did not have that weather.  We had a breezing cool day, but well above freezing.  We got a bit of a surprise as the frost melted from the bottom-side of the firing line cover and sprinkled very cold water on us in the morning.  Both Steve and Basil have been to prior events and scored Rifleman.  They came back to hone their skills and learn more about our shared heritage.  After the admin portion and introductions, we had our safety brief and brought rifles to the line.  It was obvious that Steve had something planned for the weekend.  He brought a bolt action with iron sights.  Basil pulled out his iron-sighted rifle to maintain the status quo.  After engaging the hits count targets, we saw there was some work to do.

We moved to squares and started seeing groups shrink.  Once we got down to 4moa groups, it was time to discuss IMC and moving our POI to our POA.  Successful adjustments we made and confirmed.  Having 2 experienced participants as the only shooters made things move very quickly. We shot a couple of AQTs on Saturday and saw great improvement with each.  Steve was settling in the bolt action and how to maintain his cheek weld.  Basil continued to improve as well.  To break up things, we ran one Rapid Fire AQT.  Both shooters did well on it and proved it was a valuable drill.  Both improved their respective scores on the next AQT.  We ended Saturday with Steve requalifying with a bolt action at 224.  Basil was consistently in the high 180's.  Great shooting for sure.

This range has a live-fire restriction on Sunday of 11am start.  We met in the clubhouse for review and some refresher exercises.  We had the pleasure of having Maximum Ordinate, our national coordinator, present talking targets and the IMC review.  After our review, the crew went out to the range for a quick flag tour and safety brief.  Once rifles were brought to the line, we engaged our hits count targets to see how well rest helped our shooters.  It turns out we started where we ended the night before on those targets.  I was pleased to see that.  We went back to squares to verify our sights and made some adjustments before our AQT.  Scores were looking good.  The shooters made the comment the day before that if we had a fun shoot, they would swap rifles.  We posted Know Your Limits and let the fun begin.  Basil claimed he could not actually see the target yet scored the best.  It was fun for both the shooters and instructors.  On our final AQT of the day, we saw our best scores.  Steve was just shy of his goal of distinguished with irons.  We have high hopes we can cross that threshold.  Basil hit the 210 mark.  We closed out our shooting with the hits count one last time and added a couple of instructors to the firing line.  Big John was able to clear the target.  All four shooters hit the shingle.  HUZZAH!

We ended our day on the ultimate high.  Someone was promoted to Shoot Boss, Geek.  We got a new Red hat, ChuckA. Piper, Steve, stepped up to take an Orange hat.  Virch, Basil, took a Blue hat.

A special thank you to the cadre of jayshoneybunny, ChuckA, sur+rifle, Darkfoot, Big John, and Maximum Ordinate that made the event go smoothly.  FCCC provided an incredible location for us to share our liberty and heritage.  We look forward to a great relationship with this range.

I will remember this weekend for the rest of my life.

This was a good shoot. I was there the second day. Good range, new territory for Appleseed. We had two very good shooters, and a ton of good instructors. Lots of good shooting, awards, "hattings," and good times were had.

I am still figuring out the attachment system. Attached, we have numerous pictures of Darkfoot and Chuck A reviewing the SHFs of the positions, a good NPOA laser drill with one laser that could hit the space station in power, Maximum Ordinate himself reviewing IMC, JHB with the 6 Steps, Chuck A being a Line Boss, and multiple pictures of Indiana's newest Shoot Boss.

Hoo-rah.

Virch

I got a lot of good information out of this shoot and really enjoyed my time on the line.  I appreciate all of the work that the instructors put into this shoot and all of the advice they gave.  This truly is a fantastic program.

Going back over the events of last weekend, it occurred to me I had one huge, glaring, omission.  Big John requalified with a distinguished score of 246.  It was cool handing out a distinguished bar at my first event.  Congratulations to Big John on his outstanding display of skill.  I am not sure if anyone got a pic of this award or not.

Thank you. Target was a 242; JHB made correct calls on some close shots when she scored it.

Edit: I grabbed the wrong hat on the way out the door at 0500; I know the RWVA marque is retired, I use the old ones for range trips and just looked for RED that morning.

I LOVE this stuff!

"Perhaps you and I have lived with this miracle too long to be properly appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again" Ronald Reagan
