We were watching the weather for a couple of weeks before the Cordova shoot. It's been one of the wettest summers on record in maritime Alaska and Cordova gets an average about 180 inches of rain a year. They were in the middle of a sunny spell and I was hoping against hope that would hold up. Itsansks and I flew into town on Friday afternoon and the sun was out. We were happy. Saturday morning we got to the Cordova Trap and Gun Club before sunup and the sky was still clear. The temperature was in the low 20s. 11 shooters showed up with all their gear and great attitudes.
The first red coat showed us we were dealing with some shooters that had a lot of potential. Several of them had shot Appleseed's with us before. With 11 shooters and only two instructors it took a while to do both segments of the six steps of firing a shot but it paid off. The second red coat showed good progress.
Sunday morning was more of the same, cold and clear. Another red coat and a drill and we started in on the AQT grind. Ryan, an experienced Appleseed Shooter ,qualified right away. Taylor, Stan, Jesse, and Clay got pretty close. All of the other shooters made good progress .Taylor qualified on the third AQT.
The weather held and all the shooters really liked the history and  improved these shooting. I am confident they'll all be back next year for the Cordova shoot. Cordova Trap And Gun Club let us use their facilities, including their clubhouse, we had the run of the place, they even built some new target backers for us.
One of the things we really love about Cordova is the hospitality. The people that shoot with us and just the people of Cordova in general are so generous and welcoming. We want to thank Clay and Lila for putting us up in their beautiful home and loaning us their truck. We want to thank Stan for the homemade moose sausage. We attended a ducks Unlimited banquet on Saturday night and were introduced and got a round of applause for our efforts. Cordova is a great place ,if you ever come to Alaska I highly recommend it as a wonderful place to visit.
