Pelham TN KD Shoot, May 27,28 2023

It was a perfect weekend in Pelham TN for Known Distance shooting. Seven shooters braved the threat of perfect weather to come to learn how to effectively use their rifles out to full distance.

After the Saturday morning instruction, the Morgan Shigle cold bore challenge was accepted by all attendees. Willociraptor was quickly rewarded by the satisfying sound of lead hitting steel. HUZZAH

The shooters took in a quick review of Prone Position and NPOA followed by shooting a group of sighters at 100 yards. After the Ball and Dummy drill, the shooter's groups tighten up. The days  AQT resulted in Google and Willociraptor easily requalifying.

Sunday started off with some history and more instruction. Once the shooting started Willociraptor scored a 50 HUZZAH. Bowditch showed up Sunday to shoot and requalified with a 44 without shooting sighters, a true Rifleman.

Josh, I hope you come back to the next KD, you came so close to earning the KD rocker. Jerry, hopefully, your equipment will cooperate better next time. Doug and Clay, you guys really showed perseverance and learned how to use your rifles more effectively. I hope to see each of you at another event soon.

At the end of the weekend, we accidentally picked up the range's cones, so upacreek went into the field to range the firing line using her white board propped against a shooting bench. Willociraptor decided he would hijack her ranging just a little.  Sometimes, we mess with each other, and it's made all the better when it goes unnoticed! It's all in good fun

I think this was my second two day known distance event.  I learn a lot as a shooter and as a volunteer.  It was great to see Will shoot his perfect score - congrats!!!  Josh was knocking on the door with iron sights.  I'll be back too.


Cleveland gives Maximum Ordinate a patch after a few words of advice.


There's a patch for everything.


Basic instruction is given for a few shooters that haven't been to an Appleseed in a while.


Wiley gives some one on one instruction.  I swear my score goes up a few points after each of his tips.


This range is beautiful from the ride in in the morning throughout the day.






Ball & Dummy drill shows a lot more flaws when the rifles have a bit more kick (at least for me)






Ben requalifies as a Rifleman and gets his Known Distance patch.
