Left Hand AR15s: Is Stag Arms a Good One?

My wife wants an AR15 and she's left handed. From what I've been reading Stag Arms seems to be a good company for making a legit lefty AR.

Anybody have any experience with left hand ARs? Stag Arms products?

Thanks in advance.

I got my younger son a Stag upper receiver and BCG. I did not realize at the time, that the barrel extensions need to specifically be lefty or ambi extensions. I just threw on an old barrel I had to let him participate in the 3X600 matches. The rifle shot fine, but didn't function all that well (bolt would not always close when chambering a round). Once I realize my mistake and got a barrel with a lefty extension, it has worked fine.

I got a WOA 16" SPR barrel, so I don't know the quality of the STAG barrels.

I'am left handed.  Run a std. Right hand AR with some mods.  #1  ambi mag release # ambi saftey other than that I have had zero issues. I also jave set my tippman up to match my service rifle.  The AR platform is actually pretty lefty freindly once these two mods are done.

There are two reasons I got a lefty rifle for the kid:

#1 I didn't want his face right where there is gas with primer compound coming back, I wanted it on the opposite side of his face to reduce lead exposure.

#2 It's impossible to keep the rifle in your shoulder while shooting the 600 yard stage of a CMP/NRA rifle match with a traditional rifle. Those matches require single loading, so he would have to take the rifle out of his shoulder to load. Keeping it in the shoulder is superior for that type of event.

That being said, there are some very good lefty service rifle shooters that shoot traditional right sided ejecton port rifles.

Run and Gun Heather on YouTube has a Stag Arms Left hand AR.  You can check out some of her videos.  If you consider going Tick Magnets route the LWRC lowers already have the controls on both sides.

Unfortunately I believe Stag is pretty much the only game left in the southpaw AR market.  I have a CMMG build, but that was from back when CMMG was a small upstart in Fulton, MO.  I also have an Old Stag Model 3 and Model 6L from before they were forced to sell after getting into ATF trouble.  New Stag has done some scummy things like sold a bunch of Radian Raptor knock offs as the real deal one Black Friday circa 2018 and still not admitting to it even after they delivered and they were made of Chinesium.  They are run by a bunch of guys from Aero Precision now and I think they are building a decent rifle these days, but their past business practices give me pause.

As a general rule, so long as the AR has a brass deflector it doesn't seem to matter until you start shooting suppressed.  Shooting with a can as a southpaw with a regular AR upper is miserable as you are breathing in and getting your face covered in all the crud from the blowback.  Which, honestly, probably isn't good for long term health if you do it enough.  If you are going to run a can then getting the lefty upper makes a WORLD of difference.  I much rather run my can on the CMMG than any of the other guns.  The 6L was the heavy varmint barrel that isn't threaded so can't use a can on it.
