Captain

After putting away the pistols Friday, Appleseed moved over to the long range . . .

The Mountain Valley Sportsman's Association once again welcomed Appleseed to commemorate our shared American heritage and spend a weekend learning about shooting to distance. We had six lanes set out to 400 yards and shot in relays to fit 12 shooters on the line. The weather cooperated to make this a perfect weekend of history, shooting and camaraderie. Getting on this range with the approach of hunting season is a big deal and we again thank the MVSA for making this event possible!

After framing the weekend with the Rifleman's Quarter Mile and the Three Challenges, we covered the safety protocols for the weekend . . .

With safety covered, shooters were issued a challenge - take one cold bore shot and hit a 3 by 4 MOA target at 250 yards! This was the same challenge facing the men who would join Morgan's Rifle Company in 1775. Those men would then march 600 miles through the wilderness and difficult terrain in 23 days to join the Colonial forces surrounding Boston . . . we merely moved our rifles over to the 25m firing line.

Three shooters hit the "shingle" on the first morning.

Two more found the mark on the second day.

There are a few more pictures to post as I get caught up. Please post your pictures and comments . . . .

Had a GREAT time!

Having proven their skills at the 25m range at previous Appleseed events, our shooters quickly showcased what it means to be a Rifleman and stretched those skills out to 400 yards. It was a special opportunity to be a part of this event because it was the first time for some of the participants to have ever shot at targets at this distance. Having the opportunity to test our skills with Morgan's shingle was a great way to start the day and allowed us to truly appreciate the marksmanship skills of the colonists on April 19, 1775.

Huge shout out to Captain for the excellent instruction and hosting back to back events with the Appleseed Pistol Clinic the day prior.

Thank you to MVSA for allowing us to use the range during prime season and their continued support of our program.

I look forward to seeing the continued growth of our program and seeing all of you that I now consider family at future events.

I can't say enough about this weekend. Most of the folks attending were part of our cadre and of course it was like a family reunion. Mark was the one that was new to me and it was a great pleasure hanging out with him.
Captain, as usual, ran it with great precision and made all of the info easy to understand. Your preparedness made set up easy for everyone. Of course our cadre rocks. Always good to work with you all. Sadly Mike was unable to make it back for day two.
And yes, I'll also say that the highlight was seeing the smile on Shawn's face with her 46.
"These a the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in the crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it NOW, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman."

It was great to be back at MVSA! It was a beautiful weekend on a beautiful range!
I would love to take to the credit for my score of 46. The truth is, if it wasn't for the wonderful instructors I would still be on the 25m range (shaking my head).
It was great to see everyone again. I love spending time with our cadre. Swiftongal you were missed by all.

I wanted to also take the time to Thank Mrs. Bright for bringing lunch out to the range.  It was delicious!
