An outstanding event at the Dillon Sportsman's Center outside of Nashport, Ohio happened this past weekend. A group of dedicated patriots reported for a weekend of marksmanship instruction mixed with a healthy dose of American Heritage. The remnants of hurricane Ian made its appearance with light to medium rainfall during Saturday's instruction.

We started Saturday morning with the normal welcome, introductions and moved on to the safety briefing. Rifles were brought to the line and the Saturday morning Red Coat was shot.  Results showed we had a group of shooters. We had 12 of 16 shooters good at 100, 13 at 200, 6 at 300, 4 at 400, and 9 joined Daniel Morgan. Two people cleared the target. Congratulations to Andrew on getting his Ohio patch right out of the starting gate and also to veteran Appleseeder Sean.

We moved on to the steady hold factors in prone, followed by the six steps and NPOA instructions.  Related drills were shot in between the points of instruction and from the first groups shot on the squares target, it was evident we had a very special group of potential riflemen and riflewomen.  After the IMC presentation on how to adjust sights we broke for lunch and the First Strike by NavyShooter.

After lunch we shot confirming groups and moved on to the steady hold factors in seated which were followed by related drills. This was followed by presentation of the standing steady hold factors along with related drills. The Second Strike was presented by the Shoot Boss at the afternoon break.

We ended the day by shooting a practice AQT and the afternoon Redcoat. The Saturday afternoon Red Coat had results which showed improvement over the morning effort.  Of the 16 shooters, we had 16 at 100, 11 at 200, 6 at 300, 4 at 400 and 9 joined Daniel Morgan. We had 3 people clear the target - Congratulations to Betsy, who received her Ohio patch, and to veteran Appleseeders Scotty and Sean. Sean was awarded the double Redcoat patch for clearing both Recoat targets on the same day.

This was followed by the Third Strike by NavyShooter and the Saturday call to Action.

Sunday started with bright sunshine and cooler temperatures after the passing of hurricane Ian. We started the day with a review of the safety rules and the POI's from Saturday. Rifles were brought to the line and the Sunday morning Red Coat was shot.  It was very encouraging.  Usually there is a little drop on Sunday morning but this group knew very well what they were about. We had 13 of 15 at 100, 12 at 200, 8 at 300, 5 at 400, 1 joining Daniel Morgan's crew and 1 cleared Redcoat. Congratulations to Scotty (again).

We confirmed zero's from the day before and performed some NPOA drills, followed by 2 AQT's for score. We made 2 new Riflemen during the second AQT. Congratulations to Terry with a 211 and Andrew, who also scored a 211, thereby avoiding getting baptized from the waters of the North Bridge! We then broke for lunch with the Shoot Boss giving the KD lecture.

We shot 2 AQT's for score after lunch. We crowned 2 more new rifleman - Betsy persisted from attending multiple events and finally scored her patch with a 214,  O0  and Seth with an outstanding score of 221!  Betsy backed up her score with a 210. Terry backed up his previous effort with a 212. We also had several Riflemen requalify: Sean with scores of 210, 226, 226, and 219. Scotty with scores of 231, 237, 224, and 225.
David with a score of 211. Ray with scores of 218 & 219, and Aramis with a score of 228. Congrats to all!! ^:)^

DOM's were presented in between each AQT to allow the shooters to rest and hydrate.

A fun shoot with a team event was thrown in to break up the grind. We had 3 teams of 4 (Revere, Warren, Dawes and Parker). Each member of each team was given 1 minute to put their 5 rounds into a target of a young man holding a shingle between his knees! The results were very close. Team Dawes won with by most of their rounds into the shingle and not into the body of the holder. Great job by all of our shooters.

We shot 1 more AQT for score and then finished with the Sunday afternoon Redcoat.  We had 12 of 14 at 100, 9 at 200, 10 at 300, 5 at 400, and 6 joined Daniel Morgan. We had 2 shooters clear the target and that was Sean and Scotty.

Youth awards were presented to Andrew along with the "Road to Rifleman" to Andrew, Seth and Nate. Congratulations to all.

I want to thank the Dillon Sportsman's Center for allowing Appleseed access to their fabulous facility. Without clubs like these, we have no program. Also, I would like to thank my instructors HikerMatt, NavyShooter, Skifire, Chevyshooter, USSEnterpriseCV6, Blackhand, Griffin, and Ember. You made my job so much easier with your dedication and professionalism.

Special shout out to Chevyshooter who provided a wonderful foil dinner on Saturday night and then turned around and fed the instructors breakfast on Sunday.

Another great weekend at an Appleseed in Newark! Lots of great shooters and instructors! The DOM and DOL stories were very well told, with a fun size comparison between Mother Batherick and a grenadier!
Our task is to deal with the dust, but not to burn down the house in order to remove it.
