5 dedicated patriots participated in a weekend of marksmanship and American heritage. All but one had previous Appleseed experience with 2 of the 5 being returning riflemen.

We started Saturday morning with the normal welcome, introductions and moved on to the safety briefing. Rifles were brought to the line and the Saturday morning Red Coat was shot.  Results showed we had a great bunch of shooters. We had 3 of 5 shooters good at 100, 1 at 200, 1 at 300, 1 at 400, and 2 joined Daniel Morgan. We had one who cleared the target. Congratulations Scottyoh! We moved on to the steady hold factors in prone, followed by the six steps and NPOA instructions.  Related drills were shot in between the points of instruction. The IMC presentation was given on how to adjust sights. We shot confirming groups and then broke for lunch and the First Strike by DocWilli.
.
After lunch we finished shooting IMC groups and moved on to the steady hold factors in seated which were followed by related drills. The Second Strike was presented by the Shoot Boss at the afternoon break.

This was followed by presentation of the standing steady hold factors. We then proceeded to shoot a "practice" AQT followed by a real AQT for score. We then shot the afternoon Red Coat and had results which showed improvement over the morning effort.  Of the 4 shooters, we had 3 at 100 2 at 200, 3 at 300, 2 at 400 and 1 shingle. We had 1 person clear the target for the second time in on day - Congratulations to Scottyoh for earning the newly introduced "Double Redcoat patch".

This was followed by the Third Strike and the Saturday call to Action.

Sunday started overcast with the promise of clearing skies and climbing temperatures. We reviewed the safety rules and the POI's from Saturday. Rifles were brought to the line and the Sunday morning Red Coat was shot.  It was very encouraging.  We had 5 of 5 at 100, 3 at 200 1 at 300, 1 at 400, 1 joining Daniel Morgan's crew. Scottyoh for his third consecutive cleared Redcoat of the weekend.

We had a brief interruption in our morning shooting by a curious doe and her yearling who just stared at us from the 300 yd. line and refused to be budged until Countzero ran down range to shoo them into the surrounding brush.

We confirmed zero's from the day before and performed some NPOA drills, followed by a 2 AQT's before we broke for lunch with DocWilli presenting Sam Whittemore.

After lunch we shot 2 more AQT's with DOM's presented in between to get the shooters in the shade and hydrated.  We then had a team fun shoot followed by our last AQT of the weekend. During the afternoon AQT grind, we crowned 1 riflemen.

Grace achieved her goal of earning her Rifleman's patch with a 211.  O0

Countzero requalified with a 217 using a brand new Thompson Center that he bought Saturday night after his Savage gave up the ghost on Saturday. Rifleman Scottyoh re-qualified with scores of 236, 224, 237, and 225.

Finally on the last AQT of the weekend, Scottyoh reached his long standing goal of obtaining the coveted "Distinguished" rocker by shooting a 241! HUZZAH  ^:)^

We ended the day with the Sunday afternoon Redcoat.  We had 5 of 5 at 100, 4 at 200, 3 at 300, 1 at 400, and 2 joined Daniel Morgan. No one cleared the target but Scottyoh was one shingle shot from clearing all 4 redcoats of the weekend.

Special presentations of "The Road to Rifleman" certificates and the "Lest We Forget" patches were awarded to our youth shooters Grace and Carrie. Congratulations!

I want to thank the Meeker Sportsman's Club for allowing Appleseed access to their fabulous facility.

Also, I would like to thank my instructors Doc Willi, and Navyshooter. Thanks for your help and making it a safe and informative shoot.

Huzzah!
And congratulations to Scotty! Now that that's over, you know what's next  ;)

Right after the presentation I reminded him of his promise to take an orange hat after he got his distinguished rocker.
Well his feet started moving and doing the Scotty shuffle when he said he now wants to qualify at a KD before taking a hat. &)

We had another fun weekend in the beautiful outdoors thanks to Cadence and his crew of instructors. As I do at every Appleseed, I learned (re-learned?) principles toward hitting the 5 rather than the 4 or 3.  I owe the distinguished award to Cadence, Navy Shooter, and Doc for their instruction and my fellow shooters for their encouragement. Corvette is instrumental to my interest in Appleseed and I thought of him as I gained the distinguished award. I was pleased to see the young people show strong improvement. I am happy the message of marksmanship being part of the foundation of our society is being repeated. I will attend Applseeds regularly as a shooter, as the discipline associated with the line commands and order provided by our instructors improves the way  my mind solidifies the lessons. I'll be back to Meeker in October to once again try the 400 yard line. I'll be honored to stopple shuffling around and take an orange hat if successful at 40 of 50 with the centerfire.  :DH:

WAIT!!  There's a rocker for double redcoats in one day?

Cadence

Not an official AS patch.

Not sure who in here in Ohio thought this one up. I was handed a small quantity of these a couple of weeks ago by another shoot boss at another event.

Patch is the same size as the shingle on the redcoat target

For those that don't know, Scottyoh is a well travel Rifleman here in Ohio and surrounding states. attending several Appleseeds a year. For those of you that have not had Scottyoh on your line, he is always a delight to have and harass.  >:D

We all love you Scott and you know we only pick on you because we care.  :1luvu

I'll be seeing you again later this year! Good luck to us in the KD! I can't wait

Great job getting that double red coat, holy cow that was insane! Thanks for letting me borrow your cane for pest control out there, that was fun! I believe with the louder center fire event we won't run into that problem again, but you never know

Congrats, Scotty-o! You've been beating around that distinguished bush and finally flush that patch out!  ^:)^
