What a shoot, what a shoot!  We had 6 wonderful shooters come out to challenge themselves at the Spring Known Distance shoot in Gainesville, Texas.

The weather was definitely in our favor.  In a shocking turn of events a cold front came through, dropping temperatures from where they were in the mid-90s over the last few weeks down to the lower 60s.  To make things even better - the wind stayed pretty consistent at around 10 miles an hour, blowing at a straight 12 o'clock position.  Talk about a fantastic turn of events for a known distance shoot!  ^:)^

Saturday morning started right on time, with a group introduction and then our typical safety briefing.  Once complete we went straight into a review of the instruction points from 25 meter events, and then a discussion of trajectory and how the bullet is likely to drop at different distances.  Finally it's on to the shooting part of the day  :snipersmi First the shooters met the range qualification requirement by shooting 5 shots in a 4 MOA group at 100 yards, and then it's immediately time for stage 1 of the AQT.  After scoring stage 1, we moved back to each successive firing line, shoot sighters and then complete the AQT stage.  We were able to complete 2 AQTs on the first day.  Ghostring was kind enough to come out and present the story of the Regulators and the Battle of Alamance - that man knows how to present our History and Heritage!  O0

Sunday continued our cool weather - almost to the point of being cold.  That's not what we're used to in Texas!   **)  First up was a discussion on target detection and range estimation, followed by a practical exercise for range estimation.  Congratulations to Aaron for coming the closest to the range estimation - he won the coveted Project Appleseed chalice, complete with an image of the Gadsden flag "Don't Tread on Me." Huzzah!   :F

From there we moved on to the story of Timothy Murphy, and recreating Captain Morgan's famous shot.  A cold-bore shot at a steel "roofing shingle" from 250 yards.  We had 2 fantastic shooters connect - one with iron sights, and also our very own Kevin Proctor.   :snipersmi Congratulations, gentlemen!

From that point forward, it was time for the AQT grind.  We managed to really hussle and complete an additional 4 AQTs throughout the day.  Way to move, team!  Of course it wouldn't be a Project Appleseed without some more history, so during lunch we discussed King's Mountain, and all of the ways environmental factors can impact a shot.

A sincere "thank you" to KProctor, Ghostring, Eevee and Brass Monkey for coming out to help.  Y'all made this SO MUCH EASIER.  Thank you!!!

That weekend was definitely jam-packed full of fun and learning.  Best of all, more than one of our shooters are already making plans to practice what we've learned and come back for the annual Fall Known Distance shoot.  I'll see you in November, gentlemen!
