Mrs. Smith

Good morning, all!  Welcome to the final installment of Flag of the Month.  We sincerely hope you've enjoyed this series.  We very much enjoyed bringing it to you.

This month's flag is a LITTLE different.  All 2021 long we brought you the backgrounds and histories of the flags of the American Revolution.  We are wrapping this series with….

Can I get a drumroll, please?

The Project Appleseed Flag!   ^:)^

I know, I know, it isn't historical.  BUT - this flag represents an organization of modern Americans who believe with all their hearts that the History of our Nation's birth is worth keeping alive. These volunteers give their weekends to hold our marksmanship clinics to bring you that history. Some volunteers overcome a deep fear of public speaking to spread our story.  Others have physical limitations and health issues they fight through to do their part to bring you some of the most quality instruction available.  They have jobs and families, just like you do.  This flag represents our dedication to Liberty, History, and Marksmanship, and pays homage to the our cadre of volunteers that make the programs happen.

Lobby Day, Virginia 2020

In 2014, Project Appleseed formed a design team, with a mission to create a distinctive, highly recognizable, eye-catching logo worthy of a nationwide organization. Like the Concord militia on April 19, 1775, the design team was a fiercely independent bunch, with strong opinions and ideas, with no small amount of debate regarding various aspects of the design.  It took some quite some time to reach a reasonable consensus, to be sure. The result was a logo steeped in symbolism, reflecting both the past and today.

The official announcement noted, "We decided to use the Redcoat image, as we believe it is the single most uniquely identifying visual aspect of the program.  The Redcoat represents the dangerous challenges faced by our forebears.  The Isaac Davis/Minuteman figure stands resolutely between that danger and us.  It is a powerful visual reminder of the founders' bravery, and the sacrifices made on our behalf.   The logo challenges modern Americans to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Isaac Davis in confronting the obstacles we still face.  Our struggle is no longer fought on the battlefield.  Muskets have been replaced with new weapons like the ballot box, the town hall meeting, the school board meeting - places where we can become involved to ensure the sacrifices made on our behalf were not made in vain."

Rally Day at the Capital, Santa Fe, NM, 2020

The new logo first rolled out in early 2015 on various instructor clothing and gear, expanding its footprint over time.  The natural progression of the logo rollout included a Project Appleseed flag, to display at our clinics and other events.  In designing the flag, it appeared fitting to place the logo on a blue field; the same color blue as the Liberty Flag flown at Ft. Moultrie, South Carolina.  Liberty, as one of the core tenets of Project Appleseed, made this color a perfect fit!  The Project Appleseed logo stands out beautifully against that rich blue background, AND gives us Red White and Blue!

Thank you again, everyone, for joining us these last 12 months.  It's been our pleasure to share Revolutionary War flag lore with you.

As for the future of these monthly posts? Well....  :cool2:

Thank You Mrs.Smith and brother Mahama for your efforts in presenting the Flag of the Month series for us.
It has been both well thought out and presented.

Appreciatively,

Jerry
