South Huntsville, AL (HISR) KD November 13-14, 2021 AAR
« on: December 01, 2021, 09:17:45 PM »
What a weekend we had a Hobbs Island Shooting Range in South Huntsville, AL!  We had a full line of 15 shooters for our first Known Distance event at HISR and beautiful, sunny skies overhead.  The weather was unseasonably cool, but range owner, Don Eiermann, provided a hot lunch both days to make it easier to handle.  Shooters came from Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.  Instructors came from Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio, and Kentucky.  It was a great opportunity to see old friends and meet many new ones!  O0

Saturday morning started in the classroom learning about things that would lead to success on the range -- IMC at distance, trajectory, and strategies for shooting the KDAQT.  Our first task at the firing line was to give the shooters a change to be either a Rifleman or a Cook with Daniel Morgan's Company.  When everyone had taken their turn we found two new members of Morgan's Riflemen, Carol and Thomas.  Congratulations!

Saturday evening was spent at our favorite gas station ever for BBQ and a Bonfire.  It isn't an Appleseed at HISR until we have joined in fellowship at Hobbs Island Pit Stop  :)

The rest of Saturday was spent gathering data at 100, 200, 300, and 400 yards while shooting stages of the KDAQT along the way.  When scores were counted we found 3 new KD Riflemen:  Carol and Neil from Georgia and Ron from Tennessee at his 2nd KD.  We also had two requalifications from Steve and Jeff, who scored a perfect 50/50.

Sunday morning started back in the classroom with instruction on Range Estimation, followed by a practical exercise on the range.  I had the privilege of awarding Alabama state patches to two of our brethren from Tennessee who had joined us for the first time, ArmyVet and OP 78, as well as Willicoraptor who relocated from FL a few months earlier.  Thanks for helping out! Ramblin' Wreck joined us on Sunday and earned his place as a Morgan's Rifleman as soon as we went live on the range.  During 4 more AQTs on Sunday we found two more new KD Riflemen among us:  Philip and Thomas.  Congratulations!  Thomas took an Orange Hat and spent the rest of the day getting his feet wet as an RSO.

We couldn't have asked for a better inaugural KD at HISR.  There are two KD on the schedule for 2022 and I hope to have many more of you either return or join us for the first time!

Great event!  Well done, everyone!  I'll add Morgan's newest Rifleman to the Roster  :)
