It was a beautiful day at Mountain Top Gun and Archery Range. After instruction on shooting the RKD, the shooters went to the line to put into practice what they learned. Shifting and variable winds kept the shooters on their toes. Congratulations to: OP78 with the day's high score of 46, Trueroute with a 41 then 43, Leadslinger66 with a 41, WileyCoyote with a 41 on a borrowed rifle, and OldNavyDoc rounding out the list with a 41.

Ramblin'Wreck finished off the day with a stirring benediction that lit a fire in the attendees.

Thank you to Traceroute for stepping up and taking an Orange Hat. Huzzah!!!

It was a great day at the Rimfire KD in McMinnville. Cleveland did a great job running his first RFKD. Huzzah!

The weather was practically perfect if you don't count the twitchy wind that would sometimes swing 180 degrees within seconds. Shooters learned how susceptible that light, slow projectile is to wind at 200 yards.  ;D   By the end of the day five shooters went home with a patch and one with a new hat.

There are 3 more events in Tennessee this year and all are sold out. HUZZAH!  ^:)^
See you on the line in Pelham on New Year's Eve.

It was a great day! It's always a great day when you can get together with Liberty minded folks and enjoy a day at the range.

I learned some things:
1) When you set up a rifle for RKD, make sure you have enough elevation adjustment. My scope does, but my 50 yd zero was too high. I need to either shim the scope rings or get a 20MOA rail. I ran out of adjustment on stage 4.
2) Because of #1, I got to practice holding come ups for stage 4. Yes it works. The experience is valuable, but I need to practice that skill.
3) When you read the wind, make sure you hold into it. My first two rounds on stage 4 disappeared. I kept checking wind and realized after the first two shots that I was holding the wrong way. Those first two rounds were not to be found.

I enjoyed the opportunity to shoot. As instructors, we don't get to do it that often; too busy instructing. Thanks to Cleveland and crew for running this shoot.

;D ;D   Same thing happened to me in Huntsville earlier this year except I topped out sooner than you did. I fired 10 shots at 200 trying to hold over and only had two holes in the entire backer, not even in the black.  Between running out of elevation and slow ammo it was a long unfulfilling day.  **)

The literature on my scope said I had a total of 80 MOA of adjustment (+/- 40). Since I ran out at 19-1/2, my 50 yd zero obviously wasn't in the middle  :wb:

I learned a lot at this event.  I have some bad habits that I need to break in order to get better.  Thanks to Bluegrass Colonel and Ramblin Wreck for the pointers.  Also, thanks to Booney for the MOA to MIL conversion.  It was great meeting everyone and I look forward to continuing my IIT journey.

Also, as mentioned, this thread needs pics.

We all had a truely magnificent time. I was aided by Booney who gracious sold me some .22 to replace what was still in a bag in my garage.  :wb:  The 20 MOA scope Mount saved my bacon so I didn't suffer from Click Deficiency Disorder. I did reaffirm that dialing in come-ups is far superior to trying to use reticle marks on timed events. Army Vet and I were delighted at the personalized far right accommodations for lefties on the firing line. It was glorious (except for the holes I placed in Leadslingers target)!

Click Deficiency Disorder? I never knew my issue had a name ;D.

I can give those extra holes back next time we shoot together if you need ‘em >:D :---

I'm still trying to figure out how Leadslinger ended up with 13 holes once and everyone else on the line had all 10 as well.  ???

Maybe a 2 rounder and a 5 rounder got swapped.   ???

Anyhow, good job everyone! That's a hard COF. Like Wreck said it is definitely a learning experience to find out how, "how susceptible that light, slow projectile is to wind at 200 yards."

Nope. It was stage four - one mag, 10 rounds……

Good point! That makes much more sense than my theory of another shooter on the grassy knoll shooting John's target.  ;D

Maybe a few pasties fell off?
If memory serves, we were starting a new AQT at Stage 4... so these were fresh targets than would not have had holes in them to be pasted.
The difference between a novice and a master: the novice does it until they get it right. The master does it until they can't get it wrong.

What a great event!  Great leadership, great friends, great weather, and great results!

Huzzah to every shooter on the line, but especially for those who took home a new patch or a hat!

The events that have such a large number of instructors feel like family reunions to me.

Here is a list of links to my photos on Imgur.  I am still getting accustomed to using the site as an image library.  Note that they are not in the chronological order in which they were taken. Also, the website crops some in the process of uploading them (sorry Tall Timber). If you want or need a full-sized version please send me an e-mail (appleseedtn@gmail.com) and I will send you the photo(s) in as large of a size as g-mail will allow.

My father didn't serve in WWII.  It wasn't for lack of trying.  He attempted to enlist 3 separate times.  The last time the doctor said he was too short.  He responded that he signed up again because he said he saw a poster that was recruiting short men to be pilots.  The doctor said, "Short, yes.  But this is ridiculous."  In my book, he's still a hero.

Great pics, thanks for posting them. When i arrived Saturday morning it was like a family reunion. I was able to shoot with alot of the folks i look up to and have been by my side since i took a hat.
