Piqua OH July 24-25, 2021 Pistol Clinic AAR

We had an awesome weekend at the Piqua Fish and Game; seven pistol shooters stepped onto our line to experience an Appleseed Pistol Clinic. This was one of those times when everything and everyone just seems to come together to make a perfect event.

Saturday morning's instruction went very quickly because all shooters had previous experience with Appleseed rifle instruction, and while pistols are different from rifles most of the same rules still apply.

After lunch the first strike was told then a practice Pistol Qualification Test (PQT) was shot; those results indicated that good things were sure to happen.  We shot six PQT's through the afternoon and gained three new Pistoleer™s. Congratulations to Bill T. (Sierra1) scoring a 222, Josiah K (Sheepdog 1776) shot a 212, and Jeff M. earned his patch with a 213.  All three shooters reconfirmed on Sunday, with Bill shooting a distinguished score of 239 with iron sights, and Josiah a distinguished score of 240.

Sunday morning saw six returning shooters. After a series of drills to sharpen their skills we went back to the PQT grind and found another Pistoleer™; congratulations Collen W. scoring a 233. From that point he consistently scored in the 230's with his highest being a 238. Ruben had consistent improvement throughout the two days and shot a 206 on his last attempt; so very close to the required 210 to get the patch. I'm sure he'll have no trouble shooting the score when he returns.

On the final Red Coat we had two shooters clear it, Jeff and Collin each earned an Ohio Patch for their skill.

We also gained a new Instructor In training; thanks to Sierra1 for stepping up to accept the challenge.

It was a memorable weekend for everyone. Special thanks to the amazing instructor crew of Doc Willi, ChiefLane and Shadow 870.

Thanks to all the instructors for a great weekend. Discovered how to place a great shot and what bad habits I needed to fix to keep improving. Looking forward to the next pistol shoot. Thanks again!
