Magpul Stock Sling Mount for Easy Transitions

At my first Appleseed, several shooters and I were operating centerfire rifles. Most of us had issues with the M1 sling, and wound up using a hasty sling technique for the entire shoot instead of the loop sling for sitting and prone positions. This was due to our rifle stocks not including a rear sling swivel. In fact, my stock didn't have a convenient place to even mount one. On my rifle I had the M1 sling's J-hook attached to my front swivel, and the other end looped through a slot in my stock. After the event I found a part that converted the rear slot to a quick detach setting, allowing me to connect a QD swivel. I can run the buckling end of my sling through the front swivel, and connect the J-hook to a rear detachable swivel. This makes the transition from hasty sling to loop sling a breeze.

I'm sharing this for anyone else operating a rifle with a slotted buttstock. The part I used was a QD Rotation Sling Mount-N-Stock, made by Impact Weapons Components. It installed in minutes with two screws, and can be applied on the right or left hand side. It runs for around $30. All you need from there is a QD sling swivel, which you can pick up for cheap in many places.

I've taken my rifle to the range to test it out, and I was able to switch sling techniques pretty quickly. The mount held in place firmly. Overall I'm pretty happy with this part.

I agree a QD in the rear makes life a lot easier when switching between positions.  Less time fiddling with the sling in prep means more time calming down and feeling out a good NPoA.

A lot of magpul and other stocks come with QD in the rear.  For example Magpul's CTR, STR, PRS, MOE SL (not MOE or MOE SL-K), and UBR stocks I believe all have QD mounts built in.

A good point. This cost me a little less than a new stock.

If you disassemble the sling, you can replace the J-hook with the QD swivel, and lose the noise-maker.

Magpul makes a para-cord clip https://magpul.com/paraclip.html?mp_global_color=118  they are 10 dollars and you can lock them closed with the cross bolt

that hole at the bottom of your stock fits para cord , a couple uni knots and you have a incredibly strong soft , quite, mount you can easily clip into that is in the prefect spot for hasty sling and is off in a half second when you want it off. no bulk to the rifle ,

just replace the noise maker J clip with the para clip

Also helpful. I found that the QD mount didn't add any felt bulk to the stock, but this would've cost me less.

I use the Magpul stock with the QD setup that is shown in your picture. It works well for me. I like the way the sling attaches to the side of the stock in hasty. For me, it helps the sling lie flat across the chest too.

I also added a bipod mount similar to this one https://www.midwayusa.com/product/100341869
to the rail in front and put an Uncle Mike's swivel on the other end of the sling. This makes it easier to remove and reattach the sling at the muzzle end.

Instead of spending the $30, why not just get a QD buckle set and some extra webbing? About a foot (probably less) through the rear slot in the buttstock, then through one side of the QD buckle. Put the mating end of the QD buckle on the sling. And, done.

Total cost, about $5, if you only buy one buckle and a piece of webbing. Much less if you buy in bulk (and QDs and webbing are ALL kinds of useful to have around the house/range bag).

Plus, this will work with ANY stock. I have even used a similar approach to put a sling on the top side of an A2 fixed stock (borrowing from Delta and the Israeli approach)

You could also go much simpler- an HK clip and paracord. I just did this to my M416-22- a prusik hitch around the buffer tube, leaving a loop that can easily be slid around to wherever I want it. Then use an HK clip on the sling, and you're golden.

These work pretty well;

You stuff the buckle through the slot, turn it 90*, and slide the o-ring up to the stock. Now you have a dangling QD socket.
