Great weekend for an Appleseed down the river from Glenrock. Big thanks to Bob Vollman and family for hosting us. We had the perfect spot to build a range; flat, no sagebrush, super short grass, high bank for a backstop and plenty of nearby rocks to hold the mats down when the wind came up. Every AS has the "upper crust of America" attending but this bunch was awesome. After hearing some 'strikes, stories and a few quotes from back in the day, Lydia{10} and Logan{15} came back to us with some quotes of their own. Lydia's was about commitment to a cause and Logan had one about tactics from later in the war. Truly makes it worthwhile!  Saturday's weather was about perfect as the shooting commenced. Shooters were getting things sorted out and improvement was seen across the board........then late in the day equipment problems reared their ugly heads.... Clean your rifles folks.  Rain Saturday evening settled the dust as Sunday dawned with heavy clouds and wind. Perfect Appleseed conditions. We had two fresh shooters {Kaden and Melissa} to bring up to speed Sunday morning: the more the merrier. Despite ever increasing wind and continuing rifle malfunctions AQT scores climbed steadily. Unfortunately tube mags and jammed rifles slowed things down a bit and Rifleman scores were hard to come by. The newer shooters, Gene, Logan, Lydia and Melissa must have been paying attention as their form was much improved on the firing line and it showed on paper. Lots of 170s and 180s, not bad keep at it. Velvet; truly a "High Daughter of Liberty" had already spread the AS word when we ate in town Sat. night. Thanks Velvet! Though she suffered severe shoulder pain Sunday she persevered and shot all the prone stages seated; amazingly well!  My son Max was a paying attendee but this AS wouldn't have happened without him. He rounded up the people on the line, brought tables and canopies for shade, modeled the positions for us and, oh yeah, it was a long time coming, but.... he shot the score! Thanks Max and congratulations! Now he wants a hat. Yeah! What a great crew. Marathon Girl did a fine second strike and some Dangerous Dames while Sleepy shined with some great instructing and captivating story telling. Sunday saw Nik end his Orange Hat run and earn a beautiful Red one! Congratulations Nik.   All in all an awsome Appleseed!

So many great things to say about this shoot! Great people, rising scores, trading of grungy old chapeaus for bright new ones, great shooting despite fierce winds...goes on and on.

My heartfelt thanks to all who helped this poor out-of-town instructor with his flat-tire-on-a-Saturday-night issues!
