This article from the New England Historical Society is a nice, concise biography of Sam Whittemore, the most dangerous of old men. The side you don't hear about much is his record of civic involvement. He was a member of his town committee in 1768 and also a member of the Committee of Correspondence from 1772. Good stuff to work into the story, or into the final day benediction.
