Once a year we are blessed to get a full day on the 500 yard range at Red Brush Rifle Range for a Known Distance event.  Attendance was low this year due to 25 meter shoot cancellations earlier this year disrupting the flow through the program.  But boy, the enthusiasm of the three shooters and four instructors more than made up for it!  This was especially true during history discussions of the role of riflemen in key events like the battles of Trenton and Saratoga and the importance of preparation as shown by the Bermuda Powder Raid (er, liberation).

The weather was beautiful but you wouldn't know it from the Shoot Boss who grumbled at the 10 mph gusts of wind being zero value.  But while we didn't get to practice wind effects as much as we liked, there were many other things to work on; mapping reticles, estimating distances, verifying come-ups.   All while shooting every shot by the numbers with NPOA.  And on this last point it showed with Charles, Dirk, and Jordan all showing groups well under 4 MOA.  As an example, are Dirk's initial sighter shots at 500 yards using the estimated (non-verified) come ups!

Interestingly, each shooter was attending to get more acquainted with their equipment.  Jordan was an attendee at the first Appleseed in Evansville back in 2006 (https://appleseedinfo.org/pdf/2006_Evansville_Appleseed_News.pdf) but hadn't attended a shoot since!  And he only has been able to stretch his rifle out to 200 before today.  Dirk as well hadn't attended an Appleseed in years.  Charles was the newest qualified rifleman of the group and was learning all the ins and outs of his new equipment.

Here are some more action shots from the day:

And now for the Huzzah...congratulations to Jordan and Dirk on earning their KD patches.  Well done riflemen!

And the instructors agreed that Charles is probably just an AQT away from doing the same.  We definitely hope to see him on the line again!

Speaking of instructors, I would like to thank Big John, Darkfoot, and Tundra Badger for making this event such a success. Oh, and I should mention that I have to order a 250 patch for Tundra Badger for his last instructor qualification.   O0

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Benjamin Franklin, 1775

"A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined; to which end a uniform and well-digested plan is requisite; and their safety and interest require that they should promote such manufactories as tend to render them independent of others for essential, particularly military, supplies."  George Washington 1790

"[T]o preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them…"
