*Instructor boot camp is an intensive two day training session for current instructors and qualified candidates.  If you are interested in becoming an Appleseed instructor contact me at roger@tailwindcyclists.com.  Standard minimum requirements are to have attended at least two Appleseeds as a student and scored Rifleman.

Online registration for all Kansas events

The entry fee is $75 for adults, $30 for kids under 18 and $30 for all current military (Active, Guard & Reserves) and police and elected officials.

We'll fire about 600 rounds over two days.  The class is held rain, snow or shine as long as it's safe to drive.  Dress accordingly.

Lucky Gunner wrote up a review of Appleseed and a follow up of lessons learned that do a good job of telling you what to expect.

At Appleseed you'll learn how to make hits on targets up to 500 yards away without a bench, bag or bipod.  We teach that by using reduced size targets at 25 meters.

Learn how to build a steady position in standing, seated, kneeling and prone, get proper sight alignment and execute a perfect shot with good trigger control.

How good are you?  A Rifleman can put 5 rounds into a postage stamp at 25 meters prone unsupported.  No bag, no bipod, no bench.
This is the size a target at 500 meters would appear.  That's what we'll teach you.

If you can't make a Kansas event check out Project Appleseed's national calendar to find a date and location that works for you!

Here's Appleseed's homepage where you can read all about Project Appleseed.

At most Appleseeds centerfire rifles like the AR-15, FAL and other military pattern rifles are welcome.  Some Appleseeds are limited to .22LR only.  Check the individual event for caliber restrictions. Any rifle action and any sighting system is allowed but the course of fire is designed around removable magazine fed semi-autos.

Notice - Smith & Wesson 15/22 .22LR rifles are prohibited due to safety issues.  S&W centerfire AR15's, all .22LR conversions and non-S&W .22LR dedicated AR15 uppers are allowed.
Both Project Appleseed and the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation have prohibited the use of the S&W 15/22 rifles at their events after multiple safety issues including rifles that had passed S&W's safety check gauge.  The quote below is from the SSSF release notifying participants of the prohibition...
QuoteAlthough we were informed this would have been corrected by checking the space with the gauge, it has not. At a SASP State match, a S&W M&P 15-22 fired out of battery, luckily only causing very minor injury to a safety officer. That firearm had, and has again been checked, and passes inspection with the gauge.  We have reached out multiple times and left messages with multiple people at S&W to contact us. After no responses from S&W, for the safety of everyone in our program, we sent out the directive to temporarily stop using the firearm in our program. Staff reached out twice on Friday to S&W Customer Service and both times, after a little over 20 minutes on hold, our call was disconnected by S&W without us being able to speak to anyone.

Shooters of all skill levels, including new shooters, are welcome.  To get the most out of the class, if possible, students should know how to load, unload and clear a minor malfunction with their rifle.

Ammo - You'll need 600 rounds of ammo for the two day class.  CCI Mini-Mag and CCI Standard Velocity .22LR are two of the most reliable and accurate .22LR rounds you can get that's still reasonably priced.

Is the $6 fee at De Soto, per shoot? Or per day?

$6 per shooter is the fee for the entire weekend.
