Mrs. Smith

Good morning, New Mexico!  As we begin our Veterans' Day weekend, it's good to note that all of the events scheduled for 2019 have wrapped up. Another successful year is in the books, as we enter the holiday season, it's time to start planning our 2020.

Shoot Bosses! start looking at calendars, planning your event schedules, speaking with range management, and reaching out to your instructor cadre.  Inventory your supplies, and please make use of any remaining older style tee shirts you may have.  We still need to include them in the supplies we use at shoots until they're depleted.   We all also have stockpiles of handout packets left over from past shoots.  The new booklets are coming out, and they're pretty awesome, but if you have a large quantity of packets lying around, please find a way to use them.  One example would be handing them out at promotional events like gun shows, etc.

Regarding scheduling; once you have determined your schedule, communicated the information directly to Scuzzy and Sharna, and they've been posted to the website, please inform me.  At that time I can add them to the state facebook page.  If you make changes or additions, again, please get them posted to the official schedule, then let me know directly.  I'll get them posted facebook as quickly as I can.

Instructors! Your shoot bosses and I have conspired to get you all a little something to show you how much we appreciate everything you do to make us look so darn good!  It's nothing fancy, but we hope you'll like it. You'll get them at your next event!

Promotion of events:  nearly every city and town has those free event newspapers that you pick up on the way out of the drugstore.  Most of them will allow free basic text ads, particularly for nonprofit organizations.  It's generally a simple process, usually available online, and I'm putting together a basic piece of copy that can be used anywhere, pending the approval of marketing.  Just have the publication post it on the dates appropriate to your area.  It doesn't have to be a shoot boss, either.  Any help in this endeavor is much appreciated.  I'll have stock copy for you soon.

New potential ranges:  I sent a presentation to the Los Alamos Sportsmans' club awhile back, and I haven't heard back from them yet, but I'm hopeful.  They were going to poll their membership to see if there was enough interest, and I haven't given up on them yet.

To our Albuquerque bunch; I know all the active Appleseed ranges require some traveling for you.  I'm hoping there's a chance to rekindle a relationship with a range in the Albuquerque area.  I have a powerpoint of sorts that can be customized to specific venues.  With enough advance notice, I may be able to travel to make the presentation myself, if not I certainly trust you to represent Appleseed well, as you always do.  Please contact me directly if you have ideas for possible venues we can work with, and we'll hatch a plan!

Red hats interested in earning their Shoot Boss hat have a couple of options on places to in New Mexico complete their SBiTs; TaosGlock and Bluefeather, operating out of the NRAWC, or oladcock, operating out of the Roswell Gun Club.  Reach out to those folks directly if you're interested in working toward the next level!

To the inactive members of the cadre:  we sure would love to have you back!  If you've been inactive for an extended period of time, the protocol is simple.  Please contact me and let me know you'd like to start working with the program again.  If you're a Red Hat, I'll have your account rank reset to IIT3.  At your next worked event you may still wear your red hat!  The shoot boss will assess that you still have your "chops," re-promote you to full instructor, and you're good to go!  If you're REALLY rusty, it may take two events, but I have faith in ya'll  :cool2:  If you're an IIT, the same basic process applies.  The Shoot Boss will determine if you're up to speed, then proceed accordingly from there.

Finally, our National Coordinator, Maximum Ordinate, and the AOC have issued a directive to try to have as many instructors as possible attend an Instructor Boot Camp BEFORE Patriots' Day weekend.  We held a SW Regional IBC in July in El Paso, TX that was fun, successful, and well-attended, but we want to do another this spring.  We're looking at late Feb to early April, and probably NOT the weekends that cover Spring Break.  El Paso is a reasonable drive for most of the Southwest Region, so we'll plan on having it at the same venue.  I'll be starting a separate thread in the SW Regional forum so that we can all have that discussion.

Finally, if you need anything, please reach out to me.  I'll do my level best to take care of you.

Until we speak again,

Huzza! Traci, I scheduled a Seed for April 18/19 2020. If we're going to get Roswell on the KD trail, we'll need to do a few thousand dollars worth of dirt work. Not sure if I can get that past the board but will try...
