Where was the first Appleseed in each state?
« on: April 24, 2019, 11:48:08 PM »
I'm calling on some of you RWVA historians to help me track down where (and possibly even when) the first event happened in each state. Please chime in below:
"We have always looked upon men as a set of beings naturally free - that a people can never be divested of those invaluable rights and liberties which are necessary to the happiness of individuals, to the well-beings of communities or to a well regulated state, but by their own negligence, imprudence, timidity or rashness. They are seldom lost, but when foolishly forfeited or tamely resigned." ~Jonas Clarke

In the course of being nosy, I saw that the TIPS page might show you that. Go to TIPS --> Sign Ups --> PreRegs/Instructors.
Select a state and along the top there are all the years listed. For TN (my state), it goes back to 2012. I have a feeling that in the earliest days, the shoots were not recorded in this manner but it could be a jumping off point.

Wyoming was in Worland in 2006. IIRC it was also the first traveling AS outside of NC. Fred was present. I have been corrected, this event was in 2005. Thanks TB

Thanks for that input. We have data going even farther back than 2012, but we weren't quite as organized in the beginning, so the early days of the program pre-date most of our info. There aren't even many of the original instructors still active which is why I'm hoping we can preserve this info for the sake of posterity.

From the info I have the first Appleseed in New York was at Calverton Range on Long Island. This was 2006/7ish.
Fred was there and I have the photos of the event. I’ll get them posted later today or tomorrow.

Florida would be Davenport on the east coast in January 2007. Believer was a brand new SB. RIflewoman did admin and Fred hisself told the entire story on Saturday at lunch. 43 signed up (myself included) - 112 showed up. It took a front end loader and a lot of scrambling on the part of the staff. Shooters were used as models. I have no idear how they had enough targets, but I never noticed anything amiss. I never once saw them sweat. My avatar is me in prone with JuniorBirdman instructing me. Epic.

The second event was at Myakka in Feb 2008 as I recall and JB's sweetie was the SB. She saw my enthusiasm and asked "Trey, have you ever considered instructing". I said yes. That was at once, the most expensive contract I have ever entered and also the best damn deal I ever made.  O0

For Texas the first one I recall was Mingus, TX at the Tac Pro range. October 2006.

That was my first Appleseed. I recently found the receipt from my hotel stay there. Over 90 people showed up.

Others have said that there was an earlier Texas Appleseed, but man I watched for shoots in Shotgun News like a hawk back then. Mingus is the first Texas shoot I recall.

Fred was there.

Can't swear to it, but the first Washington shoot, that I'm aware of, was April of 09 in Wenatchee. However, pretty sure at that shoot, a previous shoot was mentioned. Fred was SB.

I believe it was 2008 in Searsboro IA at the Big Springs range which was owned by Brownells at the time. They had one there a couple of months later the 2nd in the state I was a shooter at.
