Tippmann AS rifle review

After reading Scuzzy's review and a couple of them on the internet, I bought one of the Tippmann M4-22's.  It was delivered very promptly and I was pumped to shoot it, armed with the expectation that here was a semi-auto that could eat any kind of ammo and never misfire with very good accuracy.  It was colder than you know what when I took it out and started shooting.  After just a few rounds, it failed to fire.  Inspection showed that the firing pin barely made a mark on the shell, and this happened several times until I had fired it about 150-200 times.  Also had two jams while using Remington Cyclone, Federal AutoMatch, and Winchester SuperX.  So, I visited with Corey Rice at  Tippmann and he was anxious to get the rifle back and correct the problem.  They sent a return merchandise authorization immediately and stood the cost of shipping both ways.  So, off she goes and Corey said they would work on it the day they received it and turn it around ASAP.  Can't say enough good about their service.  After getting the rifle back, I fired it maybe 80 or 100 rounds without any problems.  Of course the rifle is not really "broken-in" yet, and I have not had the chance to give it a good trial.  I have not given up on the M4-22 and will get it limbered up soon, I hope.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them,  and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

You might try Winchester M-22.  I have had good luck with it so far.  I had a couple of issues the first 150 rounds or so, but after that it "ran like a top."  I always expect some malfunctions in the first 300 or so rounds with a rifle with blowback operation like most autoloading rimfires.  I also don't trust a handgun until I get 300-500 rounds through it.

Cold can be a factor in rifle function, I'm not familiar with the tippman firing pin and how much surface can harbor cold gummy lube.

But an over lubed 10-22 with it's flat firing pin riding in a slot can be a real problem during sub zero weather.

Good on ya Puma,  for getting out and trying it out on a day when most travelers would be by the fire at the inn.

CCI tactical would be another good choice.  I stick to that or the Winchester M-22 in my "Tactical" 22s.  Both are 1200FPS, 40 grain round nose, with no shoulders and copper plating.

Out of curiosity, did Tippmann give you any info as to what they think caused the malfunction, or what they did to remediate the problem? It's always good to have those nuggets available just in case a quirk shows up while on the line.

Yes, they said they replaced the firing pin, and they included several hulls to show the way it is now striking the shells.  They asked that I include some of the shells that had not fired so they could see what was up.  Took the rifle out yesterday and sent a bunch of rounds downrange.  Worked good.  We still have so much snow around here that I got tired of wading down to the target line but, I did get it sighted in again, after removing the scope for shipment.  By the way, I do like the flip-up sights, and they can stay on the rifle with the scope mount I have.

Wonder if the tippman arms is connected to tippmann paintball? I had a tippman pro-lite in the 90's and it was reliable, never let me down. I later upgraded to an auto cocker to get a better barrel as the accuracy of the pro-lite wasn't great but at least it worked while every weekend someone else's gear was going down! Was good times playing in the woods

If you do a google search you will find that they are not related.   :cool2:

If no moral compass exists for the individual, then decisions and actions are made on the basis of purely subjective thoughts. This leads to "If it makes me happy, or makes me feel good, or if it's something I simply want to do, then it is right and good."

If you want the real skinny----

Fort Wayne, IN February 3rd, 2017

Tippmann Sports, a subsidiary of GI Sportz Inc. has sold the Tippmann Arms name back to the Tippmann family.

Denny Tippmann Jr, President and CEO of Tippmann Arms Co. LLC, (a newly incorporated and separate entity to Tippmann Sports) is pleased to announce the purchase of the "Tippmann Arms" name from Tippmann Sports. Tippmann Arms will focus primarily on manufacturing firearms and will operate as a totally separate entity from Tippmann Sports.

Denny Tippmann Jr served as President and CEO of Tippmann Sports from 2011 - 2013. Prior to 2011 Denny had several titles at Tippmann Sports including VP of Research and Development and President.

With this purchase "Tippmann Arms" airsoft products developed and sold by Tippmann Sports will be rebranded to "Tippmann Tactical". For more information about Tippmann Tactical visit www.TippmannTacital.com.

"I'm very excited to produce firearms again under the brand my father started back in 1983, Tippmann Arms is where it all started for the Tippmann family" said Denny Tippmann Jr.

Tippmann Arms originally produced fully functional half scale .22 caliber belt-fed Browning machine gun replicas. Today these half scale machine guns are very collectible and can bring upwards of $30,000 each. When the gun laws changed in 1986 Tippmann Arms ceased manufacturing firearms and started manufacturing paintball guns initially under Tippmann Pneumatics and later under Tippmann Sports, which was sold to GI Sportz Inc. in December, 2013.

Tippmann Arms will launch their first gun model called the M4-22 in early 2017. The M4-22 will be a premium .22 caliber rifle with aluminum upper and lower receivers and all the features of a true M4. The M4-22 will also be largely mil-spec compatible.

Catch-10-22

We had two Appleseed edition Tippmanns at the Annapolis event this weekend (not loaners either). They ran well and scored well (one requal and one new rifleman). Both had replaced the front sling loop with a push button QD socket and both had replaced the stock sights (one with a scope, the other with Troy iron sights). One started to choke on the last redcoat with Federal Automatch but after nearly 600 rounds for the weekend, so did a loaner T/CR-22.

Just an update on my Tippmann.  A brief recap-when I started shooting my  rifle, several of the shells were hardly marked by the firing pin.  I shot three different kinds of ammo with the same result.  After talking with the Tippmann boys, they authorized a return of the Appleseed M4-22, fixed it fast and returned it with a new firing pin.  I have fired it several more times and yesterday I probably shot it 150-200 times with zero hickups.  I think it is probably broken in now and seems good.  BTW, I shot only Federal Automatch yesterday.  The rifle is definitely more accurate than I
am, as a side-note.

Very cool! Good info, it was one fun summer going out almost every weekend painting the trees lol

I received mine on Friday. Took it our to the range today. We had a NSSF shoot going on. I shot the match with my Ruger. Then after we were done I pulled out the Tippman and ran some targets. I was using CCI blue label and 50 rounds went through flawlessly. The sights were dead on. So far I am really enjoying this rifle. A couple of club members shot is and all were impressed.

What am I doing wrong?  I cannot get this thing sighted in with the iron sights it came with.  First adjustment, no movement of the shot group.  Next adjustment, in the right direction, next adjustment, back the other way, the reverse of what I dialed in.  All in elevation.  Windage was basically correct and so not touched.  Started over.  First adjustment, about half of what I thought I asked for.  No problem, put in the same again, now I'm on the other side of the square.  Take half back out...now back to where the first shot group was.

Using 6 o'clock hold, good prone position.  Groups are good, just in the wrong place.

Could be lack of a spring, or a piece of foreign material rolling around under the head of the adjustment screw. Or just a part with a burr, in the sight adjustment.
