Class for NRA Rifle Instructor Certification in Ramseur
« on: February 27, 2019, 06:26:19 PM »
Please respond here if you would be interested to take The NRA Basic Rifle and Rifle Instructor Certification July 13-14 at the Ramseur Range. Cost would be somewhere around $200 maybe $25 up or down. We need to get an idea of how many are interested to determine cost. This Certification will help us to hold more Boy Scout events and have access to additional ranges.

I'll speak with Tumbleweed this evening.  We've been facing a similar situation with Trail Life events here in Texas.

We have a couple of NRA Certified Instructors but a comment was made that the event need to be NRA sponsored as well.   Is Appleseed an NRA sponsored affiliate program?

Spoke with Tumbleweed and learned there are several local classes being offered near us in Dallas, TX.

Would love to have seen everyone again, but we won't be making the trip in July after all.

Best wishes,
Debbie and Padraic Fonseca

Please keep the replies coming! I am knee deep into Boy Scouts now with my son and I canl tell you what Boy Scouts and Trailblazers require.

1. You must have either single shot rifles or bolt action rifles with magazines. This requirement is for any sanctioned event even a regular weekend camping trip. (I'm sure some troops have broken this rule and attended a private Appleseed in which we used 10/22, but this is not within their rules and left them open to legal issues) We have had several Troops break this rule in NC and we should not encourage it.

2. The range must meet certain requirements and become a certified BSA range. This is easy but time consuming

3. You must have an NRA rifle instructor and NRA RSO per 8 boys and there must be at least 2 instructors with these certifications to hold an event. For example, if you have 2 instructors with both Rifle Instructor and RSO certs, you can have other Appleseed Instructors help out and you can have 16 boys on the line.

4. Rifle caliber must be .22 rimfire

5. It will be helpful if our Instructors take the Youth Protection course online through BSA, it is free. Once we take this and have the NRA instructor requirements, we can sign up as merit badge Counselors. If we offer the merit badges for Rifle and American Heritage, Troops will seek us out.

PK,

I just renewed my NRA Basic rifle Instructor cert.  Please add me to your roster of BSA go-to Instructors.
