Some weekends just turn out perfect.

That was this weekend at Ramseur, where 15 experienced marksmen participated in our home-range known distance rifle shoot. Despite several inches of rain and cold temps earlier in the week, Saturday and Sunday turned out to be two of the prettiest days of autumn.

These marksmen demonstrated they knew how to shoot, they listened and participated with the Appleseed instructors, and we all learned from each other. These marksmen earned a total of 5 Rifleman Known Distance patches on Saturday and 5 more on Sunday! That might be a record at Ramseur. Two were lucky enough to be ‘blessed' by water from the Old North Bridge.

And what to say about John? After hitting the KD target 38 times on Saturday, he followed up with 39 hits on Sunday. We call that excellent marksmanship.

A big thanks goes to Pelon, Creakyknees, Polonius and everyone else who did some much-needed maintenance on the KD range. And a huge thanks to Pelon for leading the effort for new KD-sized steel targets.

And a special thanks to the students who allowed us to try some new ideas using steel targets for AQTs. The instructors are taking lessons learned to improve different ways to vary the weekend KD instruction.

This was an incredible shoot, my fourth Appleseed event. Great group of shooters and many thanks to the instructors Cousin Hart, Rimbo, and Polonius as well as Thaddeus and those, led by Pelon, that put so much effort into both range maintenance as well as the steel target setup. Both the steel target AQTs and 4 minute drills were a first for me and I enjoyed both, especially the 4 minute drill. A great weekend of shooting - thanks to all who worked so hard to make it so.   :)

Congrats to all the new and requalified KD Riflemen.  Sounds like a fantastic event.  Well done and HUZZAH! to all the shooters.
