The Wolfhound

It was an experiment that proved successful.  While the Ladyseed was going on next door, er next range, some of the guys played with the capability of the .22LR cartridge.  Restricted to "Riflemen" only, we got to explore ballistics at distance.  After an opening Redcoat, we polished our 25 meter zeros then proceeded to shoot 50 yard, 75 yard and 100 yard scaled squares.  We gathered data for each distance then adjusted sights (or holdover/under).  100 yard AQTs were used then to simulate a full distance AQT.  Standing at 25, sitting at 50, rapid prone at 75 and slow prone at 100.  Over the 2 days 9 AQTs were shot and on day one student recorded 15000 steps.  Much walking occurred.  Of particular interest was "Wolfhound's Unusual Ammo bin".  Many strange types of .22LR were fired at 100 yards.  Bullets ranged from 21 to 60 grains and velocities ran from 720 fps  to 1810 fps.   Performance was observed with great interest as most rounds were fired as "unknowns".   Who knew .22LR could drop 18 inches over 100 yards?  History was told of the battles of Camden, King's Mountain and Cowpens on Saturday and of the Williamsburg (45 miles away) powder raid from April of 1775 on Sunday.  BadFishy, BD and JL lent their able assistance to keep us on track and safe and Ian and Mike re-qualified as Riflemen with Ian sniffing after "Distinguished" with iron sights.  We also proved that a standard "Popper" steel target can be knocked over with .22s at 100 yards when shooters work together.
