Has anyone played around with the Thompson Center T/CR22?  It appears to be an Appleseed-ready 10/22 clone with several upgrades out of the box. Magpul stock, bolt locks back after last round, peep sights, pic rail, etc.  Reviews are positive, but nobody has given in-depth feedback about the peep sights. If they are on par with TechSights, this thing is a heck of a bargain at a street price of about $325.

little buddy

There are a couple draw backs the magazines must be T/C magazines for the bolt to lock back also when you prep mags it's a pain to get the first round in after the first round they work like 10/22 mags the problem is there is a button you must push to start preping mags and hold it down until you insert the first round

I was just looking at the T/CR22  it does look to have all the things you would want to do to the Ruger 10/22 to make it appleseed ready and a few more that are nice.

it will run your Ruger mags you just loose last round bolt hold open.

I like the cleaning hole in the back of the receiver , always wondered why Ruger didn't drill that hole.

my concern would be that with the change in the receiver that it won't take tech sights , the factory peep might be good enough for 25 meter AQT but the fiber optic front well I would have to see how it shot. as a scoped  gun I think it would be great , I think the street price is more like 350-375 right now but it may come down some.

I wonder if TC would send a shoot boss one to take to a bunch of AS and review , then we would know for sure , not many people places run a rifle through it's paces like we do in AS. who else runs 500 rounds a weekend through a 22 rifle in any weather.

TC is owned by Smith & Wesson.  Appleseed isn't exactly on their favorite people list at the moment.

then they are thinking about this all wrong , forget about the product that has injured people and work on selling the product  that works. new name new profit maybe adapt the popular AR shaped stock to fit the T/CR22 platform.

they have the power to make a new Appleseed favorite or hold onto the past failures.

manufacturers who really refine their product find a school that teaches with their product , a place that uses it hard and often and has a regular cleaning and maintenance schedule.

Glock used to buy back the guns from training facilities . training facilities are a special place in using guns  running 300 rounds a day shooting in sun and rain and every other weather condition , cleaning the same , keeping the log of what broke when and how many rounds it was at. that is invaluable data , data a program like ours could fairly easily provide  we do round counts , most anyone with a loaner is cleaning it between every event.

Appleseed is the largest 22 rim-fire training school in the US probably the world just because we are run by volunteers really doesn't change that we use 22 rim-fire rifles to train a lot of people and many of those people bring their own but many loaners are run also. we shoot rain or shine , hot and cold and round counts of near 400-500 a weekend

I'm not convinced they even care one way or another.

I must have missed something while I have been gone. Why doesn't smith and wesson like Appleseed!

S&W M&P-22 got a bad name on the appleseed line for firing out of battery.

The hole thing turned into a piXXing match.

S&W claims their rifle is not faulty.

Funny thing is rugers will fire out of battery with some carbon build up in the chamber too.

Read the owners past history with the Thompson R-55 in rimfirecentral.com. Will give you a good idea whether you want to buy Thompson's newest .22 lr product.

Caveat Emptor.

I'll be more extreme, any Semiautomatic rimfire rifle can be made to fire out of battery. I guess it's the nature of the beast.

AJ the difference here is it will run most 10/22 parts including barrels.

So, does anyone have any experience with these? Looking pretty hard at one (on sale this month at local stores for about same price as the ruger).

Agreed.  I think it has to do with the direct blowback bolt and desire to make things as mechanically simple as possible.

The rear sight doesn't look to be click-adjustable, but it looks more solid than Ruger's 50th Anniversary 10/22 with the fiddly set screws that loosen up (I had great hopes for that rifle, too).

So I couldn't help myself and I picked one up Thursday.  Removed the rear sight, put a nikon prostaff on it. Just put 50 rounds through it. Zeroed in 7 (way low). Then put up some nice little groups. Scope mounts started to come loose. First impressions, very light. Very. Didnt need to build up the comb, came right up to my face. Forend is squared off a bit, makes it nice in the support hand. Trigger is MUCH better than anything I've had on a stock ruger.

Thanks for the report.  Must resist.

Don't resist. They have a $50 mail in rebate on them right now.  :F
