What's going on at the IDMR? A couple of weekends in July the first day (Sat) is a one day Appleseed and the second day (Sun) is a private event.
Just curious.

Hey AJ,
I've never actually been to the IDMR (for shame!), but since no one else has answered you, I will give it a shot.....
I heard (someone correct me if I'm wrong!) that IDMR favors one day Appleseeds during the extreme heat of summer, leaving Sunday for the instructors to have some fun.  I was told when I became an instructor that I could forget about ever shooting again, but some good folks are trying to correct that maxim  ;)
Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains." - Patrick Henry

The American Constitution is remarkable for its simplicity; but can only suffice a people habitually correct in their actions, and would be utterly inadequate to the wants of a different nation.  Change the domestic habits of the Americans, their religious devotion, and their high respect for morality, and it will not be necessary to change a single letter in the Constitution in order to vary the whole form of their government. - Francis Grund 1837

"In the prevailing political theory of the founding era, the family was considered one of the essential pillars of republican virtue, and it not only needed to be nurtured, but also protected from the tyranny of the government.... American revolutionaries and their descendants understood marriage and the family to be schools of republican virtue. -Mary Lyndon Shanley, Review Essay, 27 Law & Soc. Inq. 923,

Guys and Gals,

I appreciate the replies. My posting was triggered by the fact that I had never seen this happen before. Therefore I was intrigued. Makes sense. I did receive several replies via PM and everything jives.

I'll give my 2 cents worth.  What you have heard is correct - a one-day Appleseed due to the extreme heat during the summer.  In the past, very little participation on day two because everyone was so worn out from day one.  So a one-day on Saturday and the option on Sunday to shoot on the KD range or just hang out and shoot some AQTs on the 25 m range.  Whatever your heart desires on day two.  i.e. - this past weekend Lucky Lori practiced her Stage 1 most of the day.  I suspect her stage 1 scores will increase significantly (if that's possible - I think she is "shooting" for a perfect stage 1 every time - not just some times) I really appreciate that instructors are "expected" to shoot at the IDMR - I believe that you always learn something from instructing - and then on day two, get to hone the skills we instruct.  Plus - you will see lots of hats earned at the IDMR due to the fact that we get to practice what we preach.  It's a great place - anyone that has not been there should give it a "shot".  Sorry couldn't help myself. :--- :--- :---

I LOVE this stuff!

"Perhaps you and I have lived with this miracle too long to be properly appreciative. Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again."  Ronald Reagan
