What a great Appleseed.  As dawn broke on Saturday, the range was dry but cold. Temps in the 40's and a steady wind made late April feel like February.  Seven shooters showed up to brave the elements and to work on their Rifleman skills. The morning started with the normal welcome and safety briefing and before we knew it, we were on the line shooting the morning Red Coat. Results were mixed.  We had 5 of 7 at 100 and 2 of 7 at 200 but not much beyond that.  Steady hold in prone, the six steps and NPOA were presented and drilled with the shooters.  Sighting groups were shot and IMC was presented followed by sight adjustments and lunch.

As in the past, Tusco Rifle Range offered our shooters lunch.  Who ever made the home made mustard relish for the hot dogs gets my compliments, the dogs were great. The First Strike was presented at lunch and we returned to the line to work on seated and standing.  The Second Strike was presented at the afternoon break and a practice AQT was shot along with the Saturday PM Red Coat.  The day ended a little early as the weather and wind had sapped all of us of our energy.

The Saturday PM Red Coat showed improvement. Of 7 shooters we had all at 100, 4 at 200, and 3 at 300.  Three folks joined Daniel Morgan.  Progress was being made.

Sunday opened with sunny but still cold conditions.  We had two new shooters join us on Sunday and the morning Red Coat was encouraging. We had 7 of 9 at 100, 6 of 9 at 200, 2 at both 300 and 400 and 3 joined Daniel Morgan.  And, we had one shooter (Alex) who cleared his Red Coat.  Huzzah!!!

After Carding the Sights and other instructions, we moved on to the Sunday AQT's.  In the course of four AQT's we had almost half of the shooters deliver.

Rifleman scores were shot by:

Connor: (New) 215 and backed up with a 220.
Alex (Requalify) 235, 230, 222
Ed (Requlify) Multiple qualifying scores
Jessica (New) 215

I was so pleased that Jessica earned her patch.  Her Dad has shot multiple Rifleman scores and her older sister has also qualified.  It was special that Jessica no longer has to  take a back seat to the rest of her family. She too is now a Riflewoman.   Huzzah!

The Third Strike was shared at lunch at Sunday.

We returned to the line to shoot one last AQT and then the Sunday PM Red Coat. Results were impressive. All 9 shooters qualifed at 10, 6 of 9 at 200, 2 at 300, 1 at 400 and 2 joined Daniel Morgan.

The KD lecture was delivered and three shooters stayed to work on their come-ups at distance.

The event came to a close after the remaining shooters confirmed their zeros.

My thanks to TexasT and CrazyDuckHunter for their help with this event. We look forward to seeing all of you again at a future event.

Many thanks to Corvette, Texas T and CrazyDuckHunter for their instruction, dedication and passion. This was a superb weekend and the results from our small group is a testament to these gentlemen. This stuff really gets in your blood and ignites a passion. First stop 240...then 250.  :F

Any better luck with pictures? Thanks Tom.

Not yet, just tried again. There is some type of issue that Scuzzy is working on, not sure exactly what it is, but when you try to upload photos, you get a generic "error" message.

The start of a very cold weekend...would have been a Winterseed if there had been any moisture in the air...

After a very chilly morning, we retired to the clubhouse for a bite to eat and to share some history.

By the end of the afternoon, the weather was beginning to take a toll on all, so we shot the afternoon Redcoat and posed for a group picture.

Sunday dawned clear, but still cold and windy. After posting targets, it was time to send those Redcoats running...

Then it was on to the first AQT of the day. With great looking groups, it didn't take too long to see some Riflemen scores.

Closing out the weekend with a couple of youth patches.

Thanks to the range for providing such a great venue, and preparing lunch both days.
