As always, competitors are always looking for a way to legally gain a competitive advantage.

So.....this is regarding my standard match grade service rifle, which wears a Gen 1 UBR stock.

There is a plastic sleeve that covers the buffer tube extension, it is secured by 4 small allen screws.

I know a few shooters that have found that by removing the plastic cover, it allows one to get a better cheek weld on the rifle.

I removed my cover 2 weeks ago during a practice session.

Shot 3 matches with it off last weekend.

I like it.  It works well for me, it is a minor improvement/one less distraction removed.

I did notice in prone that my lip/teeth slammed it pretty hard once or twice while establishing cheek weld, probably the reason the cover is there in the first place.

You may want to try this if you have a rifle configured with the UBR.

FWIW, I am 6 feet tall, 215 lbs.

I shoot the UBR on position 2 for standing, and position 4 for seated and prone.  My sling is a Ron Brown 1907 leather sling, and I use the same setting for the sling in seated and prone.  The only change in seated is I choke back on the quad rail significantly.

In slow prone my support hand is pretty much up against the swivel.

The Gen 1 (original UBR) is in high demand for High Power.  The Gen2 I am being told, the buttpad has an angle to it that is not desirable for this type of shooting.

I saw a post/email the other day.  White Oak has Gen 1 UBR's.  If interested in an UBR, get em while they are in stock.
