What is the trigger pull weight on a standard, as-issued WWII M1 Garand?

About 6  to  6 1/2 lbs.

with a little knowledgable stoning of the hammer hooks,
you can get it down to 4 1/2 lbs, which is the minimum
allowed for CMP competition.

Thanks. I just wanted the factoid to reassure folks that they don't need fancy trigger jobs on their .22s to shoot well.

I will say that the Garand's two-stage trigger is one of the best stock triggers ever designed - even copied by Kalashnikov. Second stage pull is maybe 3lbs.

Regardless, I fully agree. Tarting out a 22 is not needed to make score on the AQT as using a 22 is already an enormous advantage in and of itself simply by eliminating recoil and percussion from the equation.

True they don't need a 2lb target trigger, but they deserve better than the triggers that are being delivered on 22's lately.

The last 2 Brand 'R' 50th Anniversary rifles went past the 8 1/2 lb my trigger gage reads and felt like dragging a iron pipe over a gravel driveway.
10 minuets with a dremal buffer n stone, a good clean and lube and both rifles were running between 4 1/2 to 4 3/4lb and were much improved. Just fine for Appleseed.

This is what they should have left the factory with. When you are paying a higher price over the other brands that are out on the market you should expect the rifle to be finished a little better than the competition.

My last 10/22 could hang from the trigger without firing. The gun weighed less than the trigger pull even with a scope and mount added. The pull was around 8 lbs and full of creep and grit. The worst M1 trigger that I have experienced was around 8 lbs, but it was clean and broke consistently. I think a better comparison for the 10/22 is to an AR trigger. The stock AR triggers may only be 6 lbs but they can be inconsistent and creepy.

A clean trigger on the 10/22 will make a difference particularly on stage 4 targets.

Here's a pic from TM 9-1005-222-12 that has some M1 trigger pull testing info if that helps.  (if I have figured out how to do an attachment)

It's a little rough, but the picture appears to indicate that the test for the standard M1 uses 5.5 Min and 7.5 Max weights.  For the M1C and M1D, it's 4.5 and 6.5.
