Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement keeper (that locking bit that goes up front)  for an M1 Garand sling?  I lost mine when leaving it out to dry from a rainy shoot.

Assuming I am unable to secure such an item, I went ahead an ordered a complete sling from Amazon.

Regards,

John

You can also try your local Army-Navy surplus store.

Send a PM to "ITB", the Michigan State Coordinator, he did  a group buy of slings and parts, and may have a few pieces remaining.

This topic is getting set sticky. Good info for others seeking it, now and the future.
They have men amongst them who know very well what they are about, having been employed as Rangers against the Indians and Canadians and this country being much covered with wood, and hilly, is very advantageous for their method of fighting. . . . ".  Lord Percy

Sounds like New Englanders to me.

ebay is an excellent source for gun parts including all things Ruger 10/22, just not the part with the serial number on it.

There are always low priced GI slings and GI sling parts for sale on ebay.

This seemed like the closest topic to my issue:

I have a GI Sling, just pulled it out to do my checks for an upcoming shoot and noticed it had some slight rust/tarnish on the metal parts. I am near a marine environment. What all do you use to maintain your slings?

Kevin, regretfully many of us use the technique of "benign neglect".  A few of my loaners have "character" but other than the sweat and skin oil from shooters they get no attention.  Some were used when they arrived and are veterans of 10 years or more in my neglect.

These are US military devices, or copies of them, so it's cosmetic. If you want the rust gone, burnish with 0000 steel wool and then oil it. Or, try gun wax like the NRA uses. Or, shoot more and they won't have time to rust.

Parkerizing is a wartime finish and is cheap and fast. It holds oil well. Perhaps, if when you store the rifle, wipe it down with oil, as well as the sling bits.

Best advice ever! I'll try the steel wool and oil, thanks!

Do you need this kind of keeper or the metal clamping part for the cotton/nylon type sling?
