Howdy All;

Brandy new here and would like to apologize if I come on as grumpy
old Fa*t.
Used to shoot and hunt quite a bit in my past, last major efforts were
back in the '90's. I ain't a Spring chicken.
I think that what I seen of what goes on here is a very worthwhile and
Patriotic endeavor. So, I'm starting to accumulate the necessaries to be
able to participate in an Appleseed event, probably next year as I can't
get everything all at once.
I checked the schedule on the website and Lo & Behold ... (no surprise
really), only 2 locations and both over 200 miles away & above Albuquerque
as usual. So, I sent an inquiry email to NM@appleseedinfo.org .
I was asking about why there where no Appleseed events in NM except
for way up North. The answer I received was from Mary Kaufman
Appleseed Volunteer - Texas, and this is the main gist "I've forwarded
your information on to the Arizona State Coordinator."

I live in the Southwestern part of the State, sort of the redheaded step-child
syndrome ... encountered the same thing when I lived in Southeast Ohio.
Low population not a lot of $'s not much attention paid ...

Sorry to come on to a new forum with a gripe, especially one with such
a worthwhile Mission.

I know that in the recent past there have been shoots held in Deming, Alamogordo, Roswell, and El Paso, TX - there just aren't any scheduled in those places right now.  I can't speak for NM (coincidentally, I am the Arizona State Coordinator), but when a particular range drops off a state's schedule, it's usually because there are no longer any local boots on the ground to coordinate with the range and support shoots at that location - do you have a particular range in mind where you'd like to see Appleseed offered?
Talk is cheap because the supply exceeds the demand.

azmule, Howdy;

Fire up Google Earth and fly to
33° 08' 40.77" N  107° 16' 11.12" W
It's a free Muni. range that is open from Mon. thru Sunday.
The long range is to the right (600 yds), next to the Left is
generally reserved for LEOs but if they aren't there anyone
can use it (as I understand the unspoken rules), I can get a
clarification. To the further Left and Lower are some pistol butts.
Think they can be utilized for rimfire and at least 1 is generous
with 25 yds. a good go.
By the way, The towns name is Truth or Consequences.
So, is there a New Mexico State Coordinator or do we have to
apply for a green card? (joke).

Thanks for the reply.

Nice!  One problem we've run into with unstaffed ranges in Arizona, however, is that the rule is first-come-first-claimed daily and there isn't a way in place to advance-reserve bays for the entire weekend.  First thing to do is find out if we can do that here, and who we need to see to get it done - we'll need a 25M bay for Saturday and Sunday morning, and if possible one of the longer bays starting about 1:30-2:00pm Sunday afternoon.

I think the NM SC might still be Bluefeather, but I'm not sure - either way the appropriate person will chime in here sooner or later.  If there are no NM instructors left near the SW corner area, I can ride out from Tucson for an Appleseed here depending on schedule.

azmule, Howdy;

Think I mentioned that the long short bay is generally
"reserved" (informally), by the Local Law Enforcement
folks and the Sheriff's Dept. The Brandy new Sheriff is
very pro gun and makes it to the Friends of NRA dinners
too. Perhaps he might be willing to reserve it for a weekend  ;).
I'm new to the area, so that starts me out at least on rung
down on the ladder, but I could make a cal if  there were
anyone to do some of the pushin' and pointin' ...
