Questions of Ruger 10/22 Contest Rifle

Just received my Ruger 10/22 contest rifle and I am very impressed with it.  Actually bought 2 - one for my son and one for me.

I have a few questions:

1.)  The rifle comes with sling swivel studs.  I obviously have to put a web sling on the rifle for AS.  What is the best way to do this?  Replace the studs with something else?  Is so, what do I need?

2.)  How about trigger upgrades?  How good is the stock trigger and if I was to upgrade it what should I use?

3.)  Have any of you used the Ruger BX-25 high capacity magazine?  Thoughts?

4.)  Any other suggestions?

I plan to work for my Rifleman Badge with this rifle.  Once I do it with the 10/22 contest rifle I will then work on accomplishing the same thing with my CZ-452.

Thanks for the guidance!

First congrats on the new rifles and GOOD on you for getting your son involved also!

the sling swivel studs are what you need.  then just get a few uncle mikes qd swivels and put on your slings.  they are a few bucks a set at dicks or gander or on the net.

as far as triggers go the standard trigger is a bit heavy but very usable.  don't get caught up in the gear aspect of the event.  we are a field shooting program. 4 moa is our standard.  we aren't on a bench trying to blow the x ring out.  The standard trigger is 2 moa capable or better if you do your part and apply the fundamentals.    If you decide later that you want to get a sub moa gun there are lots of upgrades ranging for 45-200 plus dollars.  the VQ trigger internals are nice and the kidd drop in trigger groups are amazing.

The bx25 mags are good to go.  I have a lot of rounds on mine no problems.  I personally prefer the 10 rounders for sling shooting as I can get my elbow further under the rifle where as the extended mags your forearm hits and kinda stops it.  The 25 rounders are very reliable and definitely usable though.

My only suggestions are this.  Come with a teachable attitude.  Listen and learn as much as you can even if it's different than what you have already been taught.  Bring your son and as many others as you can.   Most of all have fun and Enjoy the time spent with your kid

If you're planning to use a standard GI style web sling (or a 1903 style leather sling to add a bit of pizzazz), you'll need to find 1-1/4" sling swivels.  Most, if not all, of the sling swivels at the local shops are 1".  If you cannot find any locally, Midway, Brownells, and many other on-line gun parts sites exist where you can purchase the 1-1/4" sling swivels.

This is correct. 1-1/4" sling swivels are nowhere on the shelf around here. Uncle Mike's QD are about $10-12 a pair and pretty much the standard.

Thank you to everyone for your help.  I ordered some Uncle Mike's 1 1/4" sling swivels from Midway.

Thanks Again!  Dave
