Hello,

I am in the process of building a Liberty Training Rifle, and I was wondering how I could practice at home after I got my 10/22 zeroed with the Tech sights off the bench? I have seen the NRA Smallbore targets and they seem interesting for 50 yard practice (the furthest my range extends at the moment). So, would I be best to stock up on those and just keep practicing field positions and use of the sling? Along with daily dry fire practice, of course. Any other recommendations are appreciated too. Anyway, thanks for any help you can provide.

You can purchase aqt targets from the appleseed store and you do want to do some real shooting as you master the positions and natural point of aim. But you can also get excellent data from dryfire. At 18 feet a 3/8 inch circle is about 6.5 moa. You could start with that. Dryfire at that dot until you master 10 perfect dryfire shots in standing. Then go for 20 or 30. If you can concentrate and make 20 perfect dryfire shots you will find yourself an excellent shooter whether you are shooting an appleseed, a high power match, a silhouette match or just shooting rats at the county dump.

My article here: http://1022companion.wordpress.com/2015/01/10/dry-fire-practice/ is a good place to start. The articles linked at the bottom of it are even better.

So once I get my LTR built, I could just practice 15 minutes a day and that would help? Ill set up a 3/8" Dot on a sheet of paper and start practicing once everything is set up. Thanks a lot for your help guys! :D

Of course it would help. The key is practicing thoughtfully, rather than just absent-mindedly going through the motions. Bad practice is probably worse than no practice, because it will embed bad habits.

Is 15 minutes enough? That depends on how good you want to get. You can be sure the Olympians and the AMU guys practice a lot more than that.
