Winding down the year in Kentucky with our final event for 2014 found us braving blistery cold conditions on a Black Friday. 14 brave Americans got off the couches, shunned the societal norms and instead of lining up for great deals on more stuff, we lined up for a great deal of marksmanship instruction and faced down those Redcoats.  :---

The Story warmed our hearts (and bodies!) as we took a few breaks inside to shake off the chill of Old Man Winter. By day two we'd sufficiently scared him off and it was warmer but boy was it windy. I still have red cheeks!

Everyone's shooting improved and the fire that burns for Liberty was reignited. We'll see you folks out on the trail again soon. Don't forget to dry fire practice. It'll keep you warm.

It was a pleasure meeting some new folks and seeing previous shooters again.  We had FOUR new Riflemen and two requals!  Our new Riflemen were Eldon, Alec, Noah and Brandon.  Well done!  O0  In addition, Noah and Alec decided to take orange hats and become Instructors in Training!  HUZZAH!  Thanks to Rayne for coming from Indiana, Del for coming from Ohio, and Emily for helping out with the instructional duties.  And of course thanks to Slim for running another great event.

Special thanks to parents for taking good care of their children by bringing them out (or by being brought by their children!):  Scott (short beard), Scott (long beard), Del, Dennis, and Todd.

An Rx for all attendees:

Promote Project Appleseed on your Facebook page.  Kentucky's page is:https://www.facebook.com/KentuckyRifleman
If you have not yet shot a Rifleman score, join Applecore (aka Blue Hats) and help at shoots with check in, range safety and other duties, or help behind the scenes with promotional efforts.  We will find a place for you if you volunteer!

A few ideas on how to help your community, state and nation:
First, start at home: Be a good spouse and parent. "Take good care of the children".  Make sure your household is prepared for natural disasters.
Then, get involved in your community: Be a good neighbor and watch out for each other. Become a block captain for your neighborhood. Organize a neighborhood watch program.   Build wheelchair ramps for the disabled, and meet other special needs in your community.  Attend school board and town council meetings, or better yet, run for a position!

Write letters and make phone calls about issues that concern you.  I have been informed by people in the know in Frankfort that when the capitol switchboard gets 1 telephone call for or against a certain issue, they multiply that by 14,000!  That's about the same as the number of militia that turned out by April 20, 1775!  And this is for the little ol' state of Kentucky.  Imagine what multiplier they use when you call Washington, DC!  You can be an army of one simply by voicing your concerns and opinions to your lawmakers!

Chelsea takes the instruction seriously and shows excellent standing steady hold factors
Rayne and Slim give Alec some seated pointers at Wendy's on Friday evening.
Rayne observes as Doug and Gabriele work together
For Liberty, each Freeman Strives
As its a Gift of God
And for it willing yield their Lives
And Seal it with their Blood

Thrice happy they who thus resign
Into the peacefull Grave
Much better there, in Death Confin'd
Than a Surviving Slave

This Motto may adorn their Tombs,
(Let tyrants come and view)
"We rather seek these silent Rooms
Than live as Slaves to You"

Lemuel Haynes, 1775

Great bunch of shooters. Thoroughly enjoyed meeting each one of you and to see everyone again.

Huzzah! I had an awesome weekend spent with my family and Project Appleseed, and am so glad to have earned my Rifleman Patch and taken my Orange Hat. It was great to spend some real quality brother time with Ben next to him on the line and even trade rifles for an AQT. I shot his rifle a lot better in the last field match than I did on Saturday, that's for sure. I was really proud of my Dad for shooting a 190 with his AR too. I think he could leave with a Patch too next time Ben and I drag him out on the line!

Next step: Get my little brother out on the line and make him a rifleman too!

Believe it or not, I was the break dancing champion of Songtan, Korea in 1999. That right there is one of my signature moves!
