It is always a pleasure for me to spend a weekend instructing such a group.  It's easy to see why Metacon sells out it's Appleseeds - the club members are, from the sample I met, as fine a bunch of Americans as one could hope to find anywhere.
On Saturday, despite cold grey skies that threatened rain, they were one and all present, prepared, and attentive.  As we worked them through the prone position, the six steps, and NPOA, we could see the groups tightening.  The afternoon brought the first AQTs, and the determination was already showing.
Sunday followed, with perfect weather for Appleseeding, and we used it to our advantage: some refresher drills, some AQTs, and an unusual opportunity for a group of New England shooters: a 100 yard AQT, and the chance to really see what bullet drop is all about first-hand.  They didn't disappoint, and between those and the following afternoon's conventional AQTs, four produced rifleman-worthy scores, from a 211 (despite the scorers best efforts, he avoided an ice-water dousing) all the way up to 228!  Among those who were not putting up riflemen scores, the improvement was, if anything, more pronounced, with  Sharpshooter scores starting to show up throughout the line, and the evenings redcoats, despite the exhaustion that was becoming visible, displayed marked improvement.

I'd like to thank all who were present for the opportunity to work at such a shoot.  It was a pleasure and honor.

PS.  To those who were taking pictures of rifleman awards, etc, I remind you: :pics:

Heavyduty77, thanks for posting the pics!

Thanks so much to all the participants who came out for this event, and the instructors who made it possible. It's always one of the most popular shoots hosted at Metacon, and, as always, the intensity was high!

Congrats to our newly minted Riflemen: Bob, John, Aimee, and Dan for your accomplishment. And a tip of the (orange) hat to Ames for doing it twice!

Thanks for posting the picture Lupis, I have very limited computer tech available and I like iron sights  :-). Metacom Gun Club and the surrounding area are very nice it's a pleasure to drive over to Conn.  The instructor was also very good and was good to see them again.
I also like to look for one word that could describe the group of shooters: determined. That was a determined bunch.  Surprisingly the final Red Coat didn't reflect it, there was much improvement across the firing line.  For those who didn't earn a Rifleman's patch, they left with the knowledge to improve, it's there, persist.
