Going to CMP Anniston got questions

My wife and I completed an Appleseed last month and are members of the RWVA.  We each received or green slips to purchase a rifle at CMP.  We are planning a trip down to Anniston and just wondering about making purchases there.  We are both just wanting a couple of low end M1 Garands.  On the website it shows that the lower grades are out of stock.  For someone that has been there recently what are entry level M1 Garands going for?  Also, we will be doing more Appleseeds, can you make multiples purchases per year?  We are wanting to get one for each of our sons.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks

If you want the up to date info on the CMP stores, hop on over to their forum ... http://forums.thecmp.org/ ... each store has people reporting each week about what's in stock and the pricing.

You can also call the store and talk directly to the guys at the counter ... super friendly and super helpful.

Once you've earned your CMP credentials, you can buy up to the current limit per year ... going from memory here, but I think that's 12 rifles and 10 cases of ammo.

Enjoy!

TJ,  thank you for the info.  I went to the forum and it was exactly what I needed!

Make sure your paper work is complete ahead of your arrival to CMP store, I always bought the lower end rifles and upgraded the parts as needed. Garands are a very easy rifle to work on at home, there's lots of info on the web. Steve

Be aware that the Anniston local sales tax is quite hefty (10%) and that having CMP ship your selected rifle instead of taking it with you may save you some money. Also, if your background check has any glitch at all, you will not be able to take delivery until it is sorted out--which could take days. (Happened to a friend of mine with a very common name.)
The American Constitution is remarkable for its simplicity; but can only suffice a people habitually correct in their actions, and would be utterly inadequate to the wants of a different nation.  Change the domestic habits of the Americans, their religious devotion, and their high respect for morality, and it will not be necessary to change a single letter in the Constitution in order to vary the whole form of their government. - Francis Grund 1837

Thanks.  I hope to go down mid-July.  3-1/2 hour drive.  But looking forward to it.

Eighteen months now.  Find anything worth taking home?  Paid off yet?  It is very dangerous to live within driving distance of Anniston with an active credit card.  I think I have finally kicked the habit.  Of credit.
