Our weekend started with a looming forecast of heavy rain from a large storm system that is currently hammering the Midwest.
The Executive Range Officer, John N., was very accommodating in allowing use of a covered range that's usually pistol only.
The cold grey skies held large clouds on the peaks of nearby Red Rock Canyon National Forest. Instructors water proofed targets and discussed what the day might hold. We greeted familiar faces as students began arriving. All were returning students from our wet event in December. There may be something to this group that brings in storms.
As we set up in the icy shade of the range cover, Dave S. breaks out a propane heater! It was invaluable throughout the weekend and everyone was thankful for Dave's generosity. I dare not think about what frozen trigger fingers would have done to the scores.  Our Saturday came to a close a little early as we watched the mountain peaks disappear into white storm clouds. While we expected to be wet the entire day, we made it through the entire COF dry as a bone. All credit to Dave's heater for keeping the storm at bay.
This was at minimum the second Appleseed that students had attended. The groups throughout the weekend proved that fact. Two shooters were aiming at the corner of the squares because the targets were too large for precision! It was easy to see we were going to be handing out some patches. Dave S. re qualified with his very first AQT of the weekend. Tyler S. showed astounding improvement from his previous high score of 80. His AQT read 239 for his first patch! Huzzah! Helen L. worked steadily from sharpshooter to expert with a score of 223. She then backed it up with another 220!  I am tremendously impressed with our Riflemen. Great shooting everyone!
Sunday was sunny but cold. Our day progressed rapidly with 3 Riflemen showing what they are about. We finished the day with some KD instruction on the 1300 yard steel range. Our shooters fulfilled the definition of Riflemen by shooting the Rifleman's Quarter Mile. All made consistent hits at 4, 5, and 6 hundred yards. Having a dialed in rifle helps but we'll save that lesson for April's KD shoot.
A great way to end a great weekend.
Until next time

Congratulation to Appleseed's newest riflemen.

Any event that 75% of shooters achieve a rifleman score is an outstanding event.

All our shooters were returnees from a December shoot that was a real weather event that had an effect on scores and personal discomfort. That event didn't make the guidelines for a Winterseed shoot, but it was still windy, cold and wet, wet, wet!  The forecast for this event was worse, but our shooters proved that Riflemen Persist; showed up and scored!

Great Job!

Congratulations to everyone, great work!   When's the next event?  I bet these talented shooters will want to "share the love" and bring a friend!

We have a KD event coming up April 15 and 16.  3 of the 4 shooters have registered for that.  There is still room for a few more entries!

There will also be a 25 m event the next weekend April 22 and 23.  Plenty of room for shooters.

It was great to see everyone return from December. Amazing progress on the line, too.

And here is the much-loved space heater bringing a few square feet of comfort to a coldy and windy weekend!

Look forward to seeing y'all in April!
