Standard Press Release? - do we have one?
« on: March 20, 2014, 06:02:36 PM »
Good day all.... seems I am posting here a lot lately.  I suppose I just have lots to learn at the moment.

Do we have a standard press release for shoots/events?  I did some searching on the forums and came up with many variations from years past, but not a "use this one" endorsed press release.

I know many of the small town papers would print them and do stories.  All PR we can get right!   @@)

Standard?  Not so much.  Here's what I've been using as a template, modified as needed.

Feel free to modify as needed.

Changed text from over 400 to over 800. Already scheduled 776 to date.

To that end, we will be conducting over 800 Appleseed events across the country, with an estimated 20,000 students this year alone.

Is this setup as a mail merge? (the yellow highlighted text indicates that) A merge where you can mass produce 'letters' which can be sent to various places?

That's pushing it - we averaged just over 10 shooters per event last year.

Kirby, what, in our history, leads you to believe that I know my way around a 'mail merge' program, whatever the heck that is?  No.  I highlighted the text so that I would not accidentally leave it in there.

Here is a press release I provided to the range in Calera.  I cribbed most of it from somewhere else - can't remember the source.

Quote
CALERA - Project Appleseed will offer a rifle marksmanship clinic June 21-22 at Double Tap Training Center, 300 Horton Cove Road.

Project Appleseed is an activity of the Revolutionary War Veterans Association and is dedicated to teaching American heritage and history as well as foundational rifle marksmanship skills in a family-friendly environment.

Sign-in for the two-day clinic begins at 7:45 a.m. June 21. The clinic starts at 8:30 a.m. and will continue until 5 p.m. both days. Participants are taught skills that help a rifleman to be accurate out to 400 yards, with iron sights, standard rifle, and surplus ammunition. Most of the instruction at a Project Appleseed event is conducted on the firing range at 25 meters, at scaled targets to simulate shooting out to 400 yards.  Participants should bring their own ear and eye protection, rifle with sling and ammunition, rifle mat, bug repellent, hat, sunscreen, a packed lunch, snacks, drinks and plenty of water to stay hydrated.

A .22 caliber rifle is recommended due to the cost of ammunition, but students are welcome to use a centerfire rifle.  Both scoped and iron sight rifles are welcome. About 200 rounds of ammunition will be needed per day.

Marksmanship clinic fees: $60 for adults, youth (under 18) are $20.  Active military, guard and reserve, law enforcement officers with ID, disabled, elected officials and revolutionary re-enactors in costume are free.  Additional club range fees of $10 for the weekend apply.

Pre-registering is recommended. To register online, visit appleseedinfo.org. For more info, contact Rusty at (256) 824-0408 or email rusty.appleseed@gmail.com. The Revolutionary War Veterans Association is a non-profit organization operated by all-volunteer instructors who travel across the country teaching those about the difficult choices, the heroic actions, and the sacrifices the Founders made on behalf of modern Americans for our country's liberty and independence.
