Another beautiful day at Glen Helen (WEGC) with the sun shinning and a cool breeze through the trees. Not to worry, this is the Inland Empire, give it five minutes and the temperature will rise. It is nice to have a covered line and trees to shade the instruction mat. We started with safety and introductions and the first Red Coat. We only had six on the line and half of my line didn't walk away, yes they were bayoneted. One shot 100 and the other two shot 200 yards. Really not bad for a start since I had two 7 year old boys, Nick and Vin, who never shot a rifle before. We went to the mat for instruction and to the line. The boys were still off paper so we put up clean paper to find a starting point. A few more times at the instruction mat and a little sight adjustment and the groups started to shape up. We did have a ringer amongst us, Rebekah, a Sharpshooter in the junior program at WEGC and her sister Holly was grouping really well also. We broke for lunch and enjoyed story time with the two young boys who were quite attentive and asked questions as they came to mind. Not having been to school and having a history class it was all new to them. Great job with the third strike by Jester. After the history we got to listen to 7 year old Nick tell us his ghost story. TOO FUNNY!! I little more practice and we shot two AQTs with a certain Rifleman score for sharpshooter Rebekah except for one problem, TOO MANY HOLES. Thanks Holly! Even with the extra holes it was still a 204. Holly said she had to guarentee Rebekah would come back the second day. We shot the last Red Coat with great improvement. You remember 7 year old Nick that was off paper the first square, he now shot an effective range of 200 yards. Well done my young friend. GREAT JOB! The final tally for the six was 4 at 200 and one at 100 yards.

Day two, another nice sunny day at Glen Helen, CA. We had three return on Sunday with high hopes of getting the coveted Rifleman patch. We ran through the safety and went to the line for the first Red Coat. We had 1@400, 2@300, 1@200 and two joining Morgans Rifle Company. What, you say that is more than three!, OK I had some Orange Hats on the line also. We went through a quick review and a few squares and on to the AQT grind. To help Holly stay at home we gave her a pretty red border all around her target and put her on the end, it worked, she didn't stray all day. I do not remember exactly, but I think it was the third AQT Rebekah shot a nice 212. At lunch we shared stories of the dangerous OLD men and brave women. After a few more AQTs Blain tied Rebekah with a 212 of his own. Only one left to shoot the coveted score. So we dicided to get the consentration back with a little contast for an Issac Davis patch. The one with the most shots in the star with five rounds wins. And would you believe it, Rebekah and Blain tied that as well with 4 of the 5 in the star. It was now Holly's turn to shoot Rifelmen with a nice 218. YES! all three made Rifemen. That makes for a great day when all are successful. The final Red Coat was impressive as well with three at 300 yards and three head shots. It must be the great instruction, just kidding. Great job! to all of the staff and guests. Can't wait for the next shoot. I hope Jester will post pictures soon.
