Hi,
I was wondering if anyone can suggest a solution to this problem:  I shoot right handed (rifle) but I've developed a Macular Hole in the center of my vision in my right eye making it unable to use that eye for aiming.  Short of retraining myself to shoot left handed what, if any, are some other solutions.  I'm shooting a Ruger 10/22 .22 cal rifle.

Like for instance are there offset stocks made and if so where and how much?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Bison2,

First welcome to the forum.

Any mechanical adaptation you come up with is a bad idea. You need to learn to shoot with any rifle you come across. Yes I also like my 10/22, long tricked out, but I can shoot any "rack grade" rifle and surplus ammo I find. You need to do so also, so it is time to learn to shoot left eyed, errrhhh....handed. Once one has mastered dominate side I like to start them on weak side. It is time for you to start on your NEW DOMINATE SIDE.

Come to the next Appleseed event and the staff will get you going faster than you believe possible.

Bison2, I would truly suggest learning to shoot left-handed, your instructors at your next Appleseed can help you with that!

It is easier than you may think; many instructors can shoot both right-handed and left-handed.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen.  You're absolutely right! I should learn to shoot left-handed.  Question answered.

+1 to the recommendations above.  I'm a natural rightie, but had a strong left eye dominance and so taught myself to be a leftie rifle shooter without a lot of trouble.  The 10/22 will work just fine as is - after a bit you don't even notice the brass whizzing past your nose.   ;D

Extra bonus:  Since you already have trigger control skills on your right hand, when you shoot something that doesn't require so precise a sight picture (handgun) you will become ambidextrous!

First, I suggest that this thread be moved to the Adaptive Appleseed forum, where there is a thread on vision issues:

B2, so what does it look like to have a macular hole?  I imagine it to be a dark spot in the center of your visual field.  Is that correct?  First, have you consulted with your doctor as to what, if anything, in the way of corrective optics might help?  As to your question; I'm curious as to what would happen if you looked through your sights through a pinhole?  It might do nothing, it might compound the problem or it might fix it.  It's up to you but you might want to give it a try.
