On one of the nicest Saturday mornings I've ever seen in Arizona, 15 ready shooters gathered at the General Joe Foss Medal of Honor range near Buckeye, Arizona.  After introductions and a safety briefing, we broke out the rifles and got to work.  Groups looked good early in the day, but got better as we learned how to build a solid position, use a sling effectively, count through the six steps of firing the shot, and take full advantage of natural point of aim.  During lunch, we covered the events leading up to, and the day of, April 19, 1775 through the confrontation at Concord - pausing to join Appleseeders all across the country in a nationwide volley to honor the men who gave their lives on that day to secure our nation and our liberty.  Back to the line for more lessons on exercises to spot common shooting errors, additional positions and how to safely and quickly transition to seated or prone, and finally some AQTs, where one Rifleman emerged, with several more knocking at the door.  We finished the day with the story of Battle Road - the 3rd and final Strike of the Match - and a short discussion on the responsibility we all share to carry on the legacy of our founding generation.

Most of our crew this weekend were Saturday-only shooters, Sunday saw the return of four for a second day, with the addition of one new face.  After a review of mission and safety, I helped the new shooter come up to speed on what we covered Saturday while our newest IIT, Scott1911, called the line for the rest to verify zero and start in on more AQTs, which the new shooter was able to join in on by late morning.  During lunch we talked about some of the "dangerous old men" and "dangerous dames" of the Revolutionary War, and a discussion of additional considerations involved to apply the fundamentals we were learning out to 500 Meters - the "Rifleman's Quarter Mile."  The end of the day saw one more Rifleman revealed, with four more shooters nearly there.  Some pictures coming soon.

Buckeye shooters, this is your thread to post any pictures, discuss the day, ask any additional questions, or offer feedback!

A huge thanks to the Appleseed instructors that provided great instruction to my stepson who had never fired a rifle before saturday morning. He is so proud of his progress, especially his membership into Morgan's Rifle Company with the 250yd headshot!  :---

I wish we could have stayed for Sunday but we both had to work. We both were aching in places we didn't know could ache! Next time we'll do some warm ups and stretching before we drop to prone a bazillion times! (...and have to get up again!)

We're both tied to work this weekend. If we weren't, we'd be at Marana for sure! New personal best AQT - 198.
